Food Trails aims to put 11 food cities at the heart of food system transformation.
About us
Europe is waking up to the transformative power of food in all areas of life - socially, economically and environmentally. Now, Food Trails aims to put cities at the heart of food system transformation. It will make the farm-to-fork journey sustainable, empower communities, promote a zero-waste use of resources, promote behaviour change and ensure people have healthy and secure diets. Over the span of four years, Food Trails will bring economic benefits for cities, including jobs linked to the pilot projects, as well as assuring the financial sustainability of the pilot projects and the identification of any regulatory or administrative barriers to market-based food systems innovation. Food Trails is will use pilot projects to create a body of evidence that policymakers can use to support policy developments in the realm of urban food. The initiative will lead to the creation of a network of similar pilot projects across Europe, including Living Labs in each city enabling change in our food systems. Food Trails is an EU-funded, Horizon2020 project.

🔎 Discover insights from the 'Power of Public Food Procurement' conference, which explored opportunities to use #publicfoodprocurement as a lever for more sustainable food systems and healthy school meals. 🏙️ As Københavns Kommune leads in this field, the city shared invaluable insights, sparking dialogue. Other Food Trails cities like Comune di Bergamo, Comune di Milano, Gemeente Groningen, and #Warsaw, also took the floor to showcase pilot actions aimed at changing children’s food habits and expanding local food policies. 🎯 The event — organized by #MUFPP, Københavns Kommune, EAT and Roskilde University under Food Trails and the 'Cities Feeding the Future' initiative — served as a unique platform for participating politicians, food policy officers and stakeholders responsible for meals for schoolchildren aged 1-16 to explore tools and gaing skills to maximize opportunities for using public food procurement. They benefited from the unique networking opportunity and gained invaluable insights to drive meaningful progress in their communities, build bridges, foster collaboration, and amplify the impact on a global scale. https://lnkd.in/dXiD__yn #eufoodcities Betina Bergmann Madsen Mette Svendgaard Sofie Folsach Rasmussen Andrea Magarini Nadia Tonoli Francisca Feiteira Mara Petruzzelli Serena Duraccio Elisa Porreca Filippo Gavazzeni Renske Stumpel Natalia Boitot

We are extremely proud that the 'Food Policy Tools' developed under the Food Trails project are now being used as a key resource by the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact Secretariat in their training and capacity-building initiatives for signatory cities. One example is the "MUFPP-ASEAN Summer School", held in June 2024 in Bandung, as part of the broader project 'Spreading experiences and knowledge on school meals programmes in ASEAN cities.' Over the course of 5 days, 80 participants from 29 cities across 8 ASEAN member states came together to explore how to scale up school meal programs for the sustainable transformation of urban food systems. Thanks to this initiative, Indonesian cities got ready for the new government program recently launched in Indonesia to provide free, nutritious meals to children, with the goal of reaching 60 million kids. #mufpp #ASEAN The ASEAN Secretariat Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale Eurocities Madeleine Coste Wageningen University & Research Marijke Dijkshoorn Elisa Ciravegna Andrea Patrucco Elisa Porreca https://lnkd.in/dinKVAdj
