Building a World That Shines Brighter: Peace, Rights and Equality for All In a world often riddled with conflict, injustice and inequality, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But within each of us lies the power to ignite positive change. Today, I invite you to join me in advocating for: ☮️ Peace: It's not just the absence of conflict, but the active pursuit of understanding, collaboration and respect. Let's bridge divides, engage in constructive dialogue and champion peaceful solutions. Share resources, support peacebuilding initiatives and amplify voices advocating for harmony. ⚖️ Human Rights: These are inherent, inalienable rights belonging to every person, regardless of background or circumstance. Let's stand up for those whose rights are violated, hold perpetrators accountable and work towards a world where human dignity is universally recognized and protected. Advocate for causes close to your heart, support human rights organizations and educate others about these fundamental rights. Equality:A world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their race, gender, religion, or any other marker of difference. Let's dismantle discriminatory structures, amplify marginalized voices, and create opportunities for everyone to reach their full potential. Challenge biases, promote diversity and inclusion in your networks and support initiatives that create a level playing field. Remember, change starts with each of us. New Zealand’s former Prime Minister Helen Clark recently issued a strong caution to Western nations, particularly regarding their support for Israel in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Clark's stance is rooted in her concern for escalating regional instability and the significant humanitarian toll of the conflict. Emphasizing the dangers of additional armament support, she called for Western countries to prioritize peace-oriented interventions, including advocating for a ceasefire and equitable humanitarian access to Gaza. Clark’s perspective aligns with her history of advocating human rights and diplomatic solutions over military support. New Zealand has historically taken independent stances on Middle Eastern issues, balancing its limited economic engagement with Israel with a nuanced diplomatic approach. Notably, New Zealand's past support for UN Resolution 2234, which condemned Israeli settlements, led to strained relations with Israel, a stance that continues to impact diplomatic relations today. Clark’s comments underscore her commitment to a consistent humanitarian approach, urging Western nations to reconsider actions that might fuel further conflict rather than foster peace. For New Zealand, Clark’s statements reinforce a call for cautious engagement in the region, seeking solutions that reduce the humanitarian crisis while discouraging militaristic escalation https://lnkd.in/d69THz2n

Dr. Kristen Ali Eglinton, co-founder and Executive Director of Footage Foundation, is set to join global leaders at the third Ministerial Conference on Feminist Foreign Policies in Mexico City. The conference aims to explore feminist foreign policy as a pathway to social justice, addressing critical issues like climate change, sexual and reproductive health, and migration. 'For over 15 years and through our 10 U.S. State Department Public Diplomacy programs, we have learned that traditional frameworks of diplomacy and policy-making often fall short in addressing the nuanced challenges faced by women and girls in all their diversity, as well as LGBTQIA+ and marginalized communities, particularly in crisis settings,' says Dr. Eglinton. Footage Foundation's recent report, 'Compassion, Connection and Forced Displacement,' highlights the importance of compassion-based interventions for refugee women. It calls for approaches that recognize the power of compassion and connection in providing services to refugees and migrants. 'Connection and compassion are not simply 'add-ons' to programming or interventions with women and girls, but central to advancing their lives and survival, as well as to realizing many targets within the SDGs and aligning with the principles of feminist foreign policy and women, peace and security agendas,' Dr. Eglinton emphasizes. #feminism #refugeecrisis #compassion #migration #footagefoundation @footageproject

Rebuilding Ukraine on the principle of “build back better” is not only about the architecture but also about taking into account the interests and needs of people with disabilities in various spheres of life. This was emphasized by Daria Sydorenko, Executive Director of The League of the Strong, at a special session on the inclusion of people with disabilities in post-crisis recovery at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) in Geneva, Switzerland. During the meeting, Daria Sydorenko shared the experience of the League of the Strong's cooperation with the authorities and organizations dealing with the issues of people with disabilities. We share several important points: 🔶 The reconstruction process has already begun. But it is important to understand that it cannot be fast. We need a comprehensive vision of how Ukraine should be rebuilt. It is important to actively work with local governments, to conduct training so that local employees understand what they can do to ensure accessibility. 🔶 There are many challenges, including the need to scale up activities in communities, lack of expertise, and scattered funding. To succeed in rebuilding, we must work together to find answers to them. The session was organized by UNDP Ukraine together with the Permanent Mission of Australia, International Disability Alliance , UN Women, UN Geneva, UNICEF, World Food Programme , Women's Peace & Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) , United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) & United Nations OCHA. #HNPW #HumanitarianPartnerships #Partnership

“THE FUTURE IS IN US” By RUKARA Tabaro As we stand on the threshold of a world that is constantly evolving, we often ask ourselves what the future holds. The answer is simple: the future is not something we wait for it is something we create. It lives in our hands, our hearts, and our actions today. In my years of working with Deaf refugees and vulnerable communities across Africa, I have seen firsthand the strength, resilience, and potential that lies within individuals whom society often overlooks. These are people who, despite immense challenges, continue to rise, hope, and strive for a better life. Their stories have shown me that the future is not defined by external circumstances but by the inner resolve to shape it. For too long, many of us have been taught to believe that the future is something beyond our control, a distant dream tied to opportunities we do not yet have. But I believe, with every fiber of my being, that the future is already within each of us, waiting to be nurtured and brought to life. Whether you are a refugee seeking safety, a person with a disability fighting for inclusion, or simply someone working towards a better tomorrow, know this: you are the seed of the future. Your dreams, your actions, your voice—all these things are the roots that will grow into the society we long for. A society where every individual, regardless of their background, abilities, or circumstances, can thrive and be valued. But to cultivate this future, we must act with purpose today. We must see the potential in ourselves and each other, just as we see it in the soil where we plant seeds. We must advocate for inclusivity, equality, and dignity for all people, especially those who are often left behind people like the Deaf refugees I have had the honor of serving. Their future is our future, and their challenges are a reflection of the work we still have ahead. So, let us not look to the future with fear or uncertainty, but with hope and determination. Let us take responsibility for the tomorrow we want by embracing the power we hold today. The future is in us, in how we act, how we care, and how we stand together. If we nurture that vision, there is no limit to what we can achieve. Together, we can create a world where no one is forgotten, where every person’s potential is realized, and where our collective future is one of dignity, opportunity, and peace.

Important and insightful work from Edge Effect & Outright International, valuable to all of us seeking to understand: * How the humanitarian system is responding to the needs of LGBTIQ people during humanitarian crises? * What commitments have the global humanitarian system made that should apply to LGBTIQ people, as they do to all others? * What capacities must the system have to respond to the specific needs and priorities of LGBTIQ people? * What challenges exist within the system that may leave those needs unmet? *What solutions and resources are available to organizations working within the system to make interventions more equitable regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sex characteristics (SOGIESC)? - as well as addressing the challenges faced by global actors eager to implement LGBTIQ inclusion across complex organisations in diverse contexts.
