More and more fashion players are launching their own “AI stylist”—Zalando, Marks & Spencer, Omoda, ... just to name a few.
When I founded Contour Lab three years ago, my mission was personal: to put body positivity on the map and help the industry become more inclusive and sustainable. Back then, AI as we know it today didn’t exist yet—pre-ChatGPT, AI felt like a distant concept to many. I often had to explain what I meant by an “AI stylist.”
During my time at CKS, I saw firsthand how personalized styling could boost confidence. It started with a workshop on body type styling and evolved into in-store styling sessions, led by what we called Style Advisors—talented professionals who offered tailored advice based on a shopper’s body and appearance.
At Contour Lab, our technical mission became clear: “A 1000 Style Advisors in the cloud" as my co-founder Ilias Mansouri calls it. 😍 We set out to translate that human expertise into a digital experience. That was an innovative start—along with a few bold assumptions.
Investors off course ask: Is there a market for this? Back then, it was logic thinking, based on expertise and belief.
Today, the answer is loud and clear. As major players build and launch their own AI stylists, it’s not a signal for us to panic. On the contrary—our Digital Shop Advisor validates the vision we had when it was still seen as futuristic and we still hold a unique angle. The future is not coming, it’s here.
For brands looking to stand out and create an inclusive, personalized shopping experience, now is the time to invest in this kind of innovation—before it becomes the industry standard! Because one thing is certain: a 24/7 stylist in your pocket is becoming the new norm.
