2050 is 25 years away, and whilst that may seem like a long way to go, planning for the future starts today. More businesses are recognising the need to accelerate the transition towards global net zero emissions. That's why they've signed the pledge. The pledge confirms their commitment to support the goal of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, in line with global efforts set out by the Paris Agreement to limit warming to 1.5°C and reduce total global GHG emissions by 50% by 2030. Do you want to join the movement? Sign the pledge: https://lnkd.in/eY5jG6Sp JMIC Joint Meetings Industry Council #netzero #sustainability #sustainablepractice

As a director of a corporate events agency deeply committed to sustainability, I am dismayed by this article. In the events industry, we are constantly working to balance commercial goals with environmental responsibility and social impact. A key consideration as part of that balancing act is brand reputation and the ‘optics’ of decisions we, along with our clients, make on every aspect of the event. I wasn’t ‘in the room’ when this decision was made but no matter what justifications, off-sets or net-benefits may be put up in its defence, at a time where climate-scepticism is on the rise and government commitments are being watered down, this is surely deeply damaging from a brand and mission perspective. #ESG #eventprofs #events #COP30 #sustainability Net Zero Carbon Events SME Climate Hub https://lnkd.in/ePyQz7cX

It‘s awesome to see your sustainability report, Andrea Eppert. Congratulations to the entire team of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH for the reported reductions of emissions and looking forward to the years to come.
#SECON2025 - our sustainability conference - is in the books! After just over 24 hours of in-depth discussions and inspiring new connections, I feel incredibly optimistic about the road ahead. The twin transformation of digitalization and sustainability is one of the defining challenges of our time, and the business events industry is no exception. However, the many great examples and best practices shared by our experts at SECON reinforce one key message: We have the power to solve this challenge collectively, and many people and organizations are already well on their way. Summarizing the wealth of ideas from the past days in just a few words is no easy task, but let me give it a try. Here are my top 3 takeaways: 🤖 We need to place even greater focus on the opportunities of digitalization, particularly in driving the sustainable transformation. Harnessing digital technology, AI, and automation can greatly improve both the efficiency and sustainability of events. 💡 To seize these opportunities, we must invest in human skills and develop additional competencies, across all generations. Change requires real understanding. 🤝 There’s no need to start from scratch. As stakeholders in the business events ecosystem, we have a wealth of knowledge to draw from across industries. The future is about breaking silos, building synergies, and appreciating collaboration. The increase in GHGs and the resultant global warming has already been evidenced by the extreme weather patterns across the globe. While governments are making significant efforts within their capacities, it is crucial for every individual to step up and contribute to this fight against the Sixth Extinction. I recently completed the "Become a Climate Change Influencer" course, and can proudly confess that it has been a transformative experience. Rather than discussing the problem, it emphasises on real, actionable mitigations. From geoengineering techniques like soil carbon capture to innovative methods like Enhanced Rock Weathering, it tells us how we can tackle climate change with science and strategy. How carbon sequestration with least economic impact is crucial for sustainability to be achieved in various geographical context. 🌱 🌿 So if you're passionate about making a positive impact on our planet, complete all the sections curated by Metta Spencer, a well known climate warrior and Founding President of Project Save the World.
