Today marks the end of an era at Reloop as we say farewell to our incredible Executive Director, Samantha Harding. For the past six years, Sam has been at the heart of Reloop, helping to build it into the vibrant and influential organisation it is today. Her leadership, wisdom and steady guidance have been invaluable, not just in shaping our work but in supporting and inspiring those around her. With a career spanning over 30 years in the not-for-profit sector, Sam has driven real change across social justice, health, and environmental policy in the UK, Australia and beyond. Whether advocating for children and refugees or pioneering waste management policies, her positive impact is undeniable. Sam recently returned to London, and we have no doubt that this next chapter will be just as meaningful and inspiring. We can’t wait to see what she does next! Thank you, Sam, for everything. You will be truly missed! 💚 Clarissa Morawski Anna Larsson Alexis Eisenberg Rob Kelman Samantha Millette Jenni Hume Sarah Horner Chloe Moles Shraddha Kumar Barry Snedden

🌍 Exciting news! Today marks the launch of a crucial initiative: the Global Deposit and Return Platform for packaging. This platform is set to revolutionize waste management worldwide, including regions like Africa where I focus my efforts. Join us today at 14:00 CET to explore how this platform will showcase best practices, share evidence, and advocate for national #DepositReturnSystems (DRS). These systems not only promise cleaner communities but also hold companies accountable for reverse logistics, empower the informal waste sector, and promote reuse within a circular economy. 🔗 Register for the launch event here: https://lnkd.in/dhSukews Explore the platform: https://lnkd.in/dRiTct64 Let's drive sustainable change together! Proposed amendments to the Chair’s Text at INC 5.2 🌍♻️ In August, Reloop will participate in the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC 5.2) in Geneva. This session is crucial for advancing the global plastics treaty, which aims to develop a legally binding instrument to address plastic pollution comprehensively, from production to disposal. In collaboration with Dominic Hogg, our team has produced a side-by-side review of the Chair’s draft text, proposing amendments to ensure coherence in the final Convention. We hope that our contributions will support the negotiations in Geneva and help shape a robust and effective global agreement on plastic pollution. 🔗 Read more about our preparations and see our proposed text 👇 https://lnkd.in/eeJCtk2Y Photo credit: UNEP/Flickr

♻️ Supporting a Container Return Scheme for New Zealand Reloop has joined a broad coalition of organisations urging the New Zealand Government to implement a Container Return Scheme (CRS). A well-designed system would improve recycling rates, reduce waste, create jobs, and provide funding opportunities for community initiatives, all while supporting national waste reduction and climate goals. With successful schemes already in place worldwide, a CRS presents a practical and effective solution for managing beverage container waste in New Zealand. 🎧 New Podcast : INC 5.2 will be held in Geneva from 5 to 14 August 2025, but what led us here, and what can we expect? After five rounds of negotiations for a #globalplasticstreaty, the fight over plastic production remains the biggest hurdle, reinforcing the reality that recycling alone won’t solve the crisis. In this episode of our new short-form podcast series Reloop Brief, Barry Snedden is joined by Reloop CEO Clarissa Morawski to break down the latest on INC 5.2. The conversation looks at the need for a robust treaty with clear terminology, stronger producer responsibility, funding for waste management, and fair support for waste pickers. Plastic straws have been back in the news, but the real story goes far beyond them... In this episode of The Reloop Brief, Barry Snedden speaks with Jacqueline Nuñez, founder of The Last Plastic Straw and Advocacy & Engagement Manager at the Plastic Pollution Coalition, about the recent rollback of U.S. Government policies aimed at reducing single-use plastics, which hit the headlines in February. They unpack how plastic straws have become a symbol of the larger fight against plastic pollution, why headlines focusing on just one item miss the bigger issue, and why systemic change is needed to turn off the tap on plastic waste. 🎧 Available now 👉 https://lnkd.in/eu9FWTGC
