About us
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization is a specialized agency of the UN which promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. UNIDO's mandate is to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition, and work towards improving living conditions in the world's poorest countries by drawing on its combined global resources and expertise. The Brussels Office is mainly tasked with ensuring adequate representation in Brussels to strengthen UNIDO’s visibility and interaction with the European Union (EU) and its institutions; the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of states (ACP) Secretariat; the Centre for the Development of Enterprise; the UN System in Brussels; and the Belgian Authorities. The office also maintains a close liaison with Member State Missions located in Brussels and has a liaison function to the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg and to the Luxembourgian authorities. The main objective of the UNIDO office in Brussels is to continue to develop the partnership between the European Union and UNIDO further, with a focus on UNIDO’s priority areas: - Poverty Reduction through Productive Capacities - Trade Capacity-building - Energy/Environment. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany is providing an additional €2.4 million to support the project “Green industrial recovery through municipality-based development in Ukraine”. UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller : “This project is another milestone in UNIDO’s and Germany’s efforts to drive sustainable industrialization and to support the people of Ukraine in these challenging times. UNIDO stands ready to join forces with our partners and provide the assistance Ukraine needs for a green industrial recovery.” A signing ceremony to conclude the funding arrangement for this contribution was held in Vienna together with the Permanent Representative of Germany to UNIDO, Rüdiger Rainer Bohn, and Oleksandr Oborskyi of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to UNIDO. Yesterday, I had the honour of opening the Ministerial Round Table III on "Industrial Policy for LDCs Graduation" at the UNIDO Multilateral Industrial Development Forum in Riyadh #MIPF. I highlighted the need to address #LDCs' unique challenges, foster inclusive growth, and build resilient economies. Industrial policy is crucial for economic diversification, productivity, and job creation. Strengthening institutional capacity, partnerships, policy frameworks, and governance is key. 📌 Yesterday, Mr. Christophe Yvetot, UNIDO Representative to the European Union had the honour to welcome H.E. Mr. Sylvester Mundanda, Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the BENELUX, and Mr. Charles Maboshe, Minister Counsellor to the BENELUX for the UNIDO-Zambia Deep Dive Cooperation Dialogue. Key discussions included the 'Dialogue on Industry for Ending Hunger,' which emphasized boosting agro-industrial development, the 'Dialogue on Clean Energy and Climate Action in Industry' for advancing sustainable energy solutions, and the 'Dialogue on Industrial Sustainable Supply Chains,' aimed at promoting responsible sourcing and production practices." 🤝 The meeting saw participation from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, the Zambia Development Agency, the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, and the Industrial Development Corporation. Their involvement underscored a collaborative approach towards driving sustainable industrial development and economic growth in Zambia.
