🔎 YERUN is very pleased with today’s positive vote of the European Parliament at the Plenary Session in Strasbourg on the “Report on the assessment of the implementation of #HorizonEurope in view of its interim evaluation and recommendations for the 10th Research Framework Programme”, led by MEP Christian Ehler. 🙌 We welcome the support the European Parliament gives to the need for a strong, standalone and reinforced future #FrameworkProgramme that builds on the successes of the past 40 years. As stated in Ehler’s explanatory statement to the report, FP10 must bring real change by removing unnecessary secondary objectives and prioritising #excellence in #research and #innovation. It should fund bold, frontier research that goes beyond policymakers’ expectations and anticipates future challenges. This requires putting #scientists, #researchers, and #innovators at the centre, allowing them to shape the programme and select the best projects. A Competitiveness Fund would be counterproductive, while FP10 will contribute to Europe’s competitiveness, it must be led by scientific excellence, not economic priorities. FP10 is a key opportunity to strengthen Europe’s #research and #innovation but it must be ambitious and driven by scientific excellence.

📣 YERUN welcomes the Warsaw Declaration’s commitment to fostering excellent #research, #innovation, and #collaboration across #Europe and beyond. Ensuring the independence and funding of the #EU’s Research and Innovation Framework Programme (FP) is essential for maintaining Europe’s global leadership in innovation and social development. The Programme’s unique scale and collaborative nature make it indispensable for fostering #impactful research, and it should remain a central pillar of the ERA, as set out in the EU Treaties. 🙌 YERUN stands ready to support the next FP by upholding #excellence, #impact, and #inclusivity, while promoting #collaborative consortia that connect regions and sectors. However, Europe’s R&I ambitions require a broader commitment, including the realisation of the ‘fifth freedom’, enabling large-scale cross-border research, and increased national R&I investments. 👀 Explore the key points of the declaration that YERUN strongly supports here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e9kX3e8X 🤝 YERUN’s support reflects our our broader commitment to strengthening Europe’s #research landscape, fostering knowledge-driven #innovation, and enhancing the EU’s global #competitiveness, and reflected in: 📌 Our joint letter with LERU to EC President Ursula von der Leyen, calling for reinforced investment in #research and #innovation 👇 https://lnkd.in/dRXmy5aK 📌 Our contribution to the EU public consultation on the Single Market Strategy 2025, advocating for the recognition of the "fifth freedom", the free movement of knowledge, as a key pillar of the updated strategy 👇 https://lnkd.in/dCDjvW2P 📌Our support to the open letter addressed to the Presidents of the EU Institutions, calling for a bold and ambitious vision for FP10, that strengthens Europe’s position as a global leader in R&I 👇 https://lnkd.in/dyi5Hc9D European Commission Ursula von der Leyen European Parliament Roberta Metsola Council of the European Union Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union European Research Council (ERC) Maria Leptin Ekaterina Zaharieva Christian Ehler

🪄 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 How should we evaluate research? For too long, academic work has been judged by outdated metrics that don’t fully capture its impact. Change is underway, and young universities have a key role to play. In our latest 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙔𝙀𝙍𝙐𝙉 conversation, Eva Méndez (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid) and Rianne Letschert (Maastricht University) share their insights on the future of research assessment and how CoARA - Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment is driving this transformation. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁? Rigid systems and rankings often overlook the diverse contributions of researchers. This limits innovation and reinforces outdated practices. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗔𝗥𝗔 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲? CoARA is pushing for evaluation models that go beyond simple metrics, recognising the full value of research. But change takes time and collective effort. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Without the weight of tradition, they can lead the shift toward fairer, more meaningful research assessment. As Eva notes, success will come when institutions adopt these changes “by seduction.” ✨ Read the full conversation: https://lnkd.in/ebfD-PWS ✴️ Watch the CoARA Retrospective 2022-2024: https://lnkd.in/ezaHrrNn Here, former CoARA Chair Professor Rianne Letschert reflects on CoARA’s achievements over the past two years and what’s next for research assessment reform.

We had the honor of working with Jean-Emmanuel on several topics on research and innovation. In every interaction, he stood out for his professionalism, kindness, and constructiveness. He listened, valued every perspective, and brought depth to discussions. Beyond his expertise, Jean-Emmanuel was truly warm and calm with others. His presence will be profoundly missed, not just for the knowledge he shared, but for the way he engaged with others, always with respect and humility. The CoARA community and all who knew him will remember him as an example to follow. Our sincere condolences on his passing. Our thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
