To deliver on our commitment to diversity across our workforce, one of our key priorities is to hire and train women locally—including, recently, female truck operators at our Fekola site in Mali. https://bit.ly/3VGIYde As part of a concentrated effort to recruit women, our Fekola team worked hard to raise awareness in surrounding communities, encouraging women to apply for technical positions. Fast-forward to present day, and the Fekola mining department now employs more than 20 women, including these heavy mobile equipment (HME) operators, as well as dispatchers, blasting assistants, samplers, technicians, geologists and a mining engineer. B2Gold Namibia and The Otavi Town Council recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the community's infrastructure. Today, on World Youth Day, we highlight the KAYEK Youth Development Program, which has been supported by B2Gold since 2014 close to our Otjikoto Mine in Namibia. Local youth face significant challenges such as teenage pregnancies, substance abuse and high school dropout rates. The KAYEK program operates after-school care and support services and affordable quality training in the Otjiwarongo area and keeps students engaged and motivated to continue their education and develop brighter futures.
