  • Announced today, DIGITAL’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the CEMI | Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation furthers our joint commitments to promoting innovation, collaboration and global opportunities for the Canadian mining sector and Canadian mining technologies. Since 2018, DIGITAL has built an over $95M mining portfolio that has produced world-first technologies and tremendous scaling for Canadian mining tech companies. Continuing to support innovation and collaboration within Canada’s mining sector is crucial to realizing a future that maximizes the competitiveness, environmental sustainability and profitability of our resource industries. Today, at the #BCNRF2025, our CEO Sue Paish moderated a panel spotlighting the Mining Microbiome Analytics Platform (M-MAP). An early project within DIGITAL’s mining portfolio, the original M-MAP collaboration brought Canadian companies and organizations such as CEMI, Teck Resources Limited, BGC Engineering Inc., Koonkie Canada, Rio Tinto, The University of British Columbia, Genome BC, Allonnia and Microsoft together for the largest investment in planned natural resource genomic sequencing in the history of the sector. The project extracted DNA from thousands of mining site samples to identify naturally occurring and synthetic microbes that can replace chemicals conventionally used in mining extraction and remediation. The resulting new commercial M-MAP company dramatically accelerates the processing and analysis of genetic data, reducing time required from months to days or hours, and thus transforming resource extraction and mine site remediation. This latest MOU with CEMI will continue supporting collaboration and growth for the Canadian mining sector and Canadian mining technology.
