The Disability Pride Flag is a powerful symbol, with each colour representing a vital aspect of the community: ⚫ The faded charcoal black represents the mourning of disabled individuals lost to ableism and disability-fueled violence, and the anger against mistreatment. 🔴 Red denotes physical disabilities. 🟡 Gold represents neurodiversity. ⚪ White connects to invisible and undiagnosed disabilities. 🔵 Blue stands for emotional and psychiatric disabilities like anxiety and depression. 🟢 Green represents sensory disabilities like blindness and deafness. July was Disability Pride Month, and it wasn't just about awareness—it continues to be about celebration, empowerment, and action. To continue this celebration year-round, we can: ▶ Advocate: Push for accessible office environments, such as advocating for adjustable desks, accessible restrooms, and the inclusion of ramps or elevators in office buildings, ensuring all employees can navigate the workplace comfortably. ▶ Support: Collaborate with disabled-owned businesses for corporate services or events, such as hiring a disabled caterer for company gatherings or commissioning artwork from disabled artists to display in the office. ▶ Educate: Organize internal workshops focused on disability rights, history, and workplace inclusion. For instance, schedule training sessions on how to accommodate various disabilities and foster an inclusive work culture. ▶ Elevate: Feature stories of disabled employees in internal newsletters or on the company’s social media channels. Additionally, invite disabled professionals to speak at corporate events or webinars to share their experiences and insights. #Inclusion #Accessibility #Advocacy #DisabilityRights

Emancipation Day celebrations began on 1 August 1834, marking the end of more than 250 years of enslavement throughout the British Empire. In Canada, this historic day is a reminder of the resilience and perseverance of people of African descent, who have played a crucial role in shaping our nation's history. Recognizing Emancipation Day in modern workplaces is vital for several reasons. It highlights the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion by acknowledging the struggles and contributions of African Canadians. Celebrations foster a culture of respect and understanding, encouraging conversations about Black history and the ongoing fight against systemic racism. Emancipation Day also serves as an opportunity for organizations to reflect on their own practices and commit to creating inclusive environments where everyone can thrive. By honouring this day, we pay tribute to the strength of African Canadian communities and reaffirm our dedication to building a just and equitable future. #EmancipationDay #WorkplaceInclusion #Equity

📚 The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal (BCHRT) awarded $30,000 in damages to a restaurant employee, Nelson, who was repeatedly misgendered by a co-worker. This decision highlights that using correct pronouns is a fundamental obligation, not an accommodation. Nelson, a non-binary person using they/them pronouns, worked at Buono Osteria. Despite multiple requests, the bar manager continued using she/her pronouns and gendered nicknames. The employer's inaction led to Nelson's termination after a confrontation with the manager. The BCHRT ruled this as discrimination based on gender identity and expression. The Tribunal emphasized that proper pronoun usage affirms an individual's identity and is essential for their dignity and respect. The decision mandates employers to address discrimination and implement inclusive policies. #DEI #WorkplaceInclusion #EmployeeEngagement
