📢 How does a COVID-19 infection impact blood coagulation? We are thrilled to share the publication of a significant scientific article highlighting the use of the #ElastoSensBio to analyze the coagulation kinetics of plasma samples from hospitalized #COVID19 patients, both in general wards (non-ICU) and the intensive care unit (ICU). Titled "Coagulation Profile and Clot Stiffness Analysis from COVID-19-Positive Patients Using a Contactless Viscoelasticity Testing Technology," and published in the journal of Biomedical Materials & Devices, this research explores how #clot #stiffness changes during the hospitalization of infected patients, showing different dynamics in ICU versus non-ICU patients. The study reveals that ICU patients experience more persistent changes in #coagulation, which could have implications for their treatment. More broadly, the technology can help studying coagulopathy disorders related to other conditions. The article was co-authored by researchers from McGill University, clinicians from McGill University Health Center, and Rheolution’s co-founders and senior scientist. The project was supported by: Investissement Québec, Rheolution, McGill Research + Innovation, Canada Foundation for Innovation/Fondation canadienne pour l'innovation, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Below is a glimpse of his discussion (originally in Portuguese) on the payback potential of the #CoaguSens™ technology. Q: What is the expected Payback for acquiring a CoaguSens™? A: As with any investment, the payback will depend on factors such as production volume, the potential financial gain based on each plant, product characteristics, among others. However, these numbers are usually between 3 and 9 months, making CoaguSens™ one of the best, or perhaps the best, investments a cheese manufacturer can find. When we determine the payback, we only consider the reduction in the standard deviation of cheese moisture, which can be achieved by standardizing the firmness of the gel at the time of cutting with the technology.
