After arriving at the Back River Project for their Inuit Workplace Experience Program, Mark, Daryl and Seth from Cambridge Bay’s Redfish Arts Society got straight to work alongside members of the B2Gold Nunavut team. Once safety training and orientation was complete, the Redfish team toured the mine site, prepared a 6015 bucket for maintenance, and fabricated some mine site signage. B2Gold Nunavut was thrilled to show the value of skilled trades training in action and looks forward to having the next group on site in the near future as part of our ongoing Inuit Workplace Experience Program. Andrew Moore, B2Gold Nunavut’s Director of Indigenous & Northern Affairs, was lucky enough to be in Cambridge Bay this week to pick up the first cohort attending the Goose Site as part of our Inuit Workplace Experience Program partnership with the Redfish Arts Society. Since 2023, B2Gold Nunavut has been working with the Redfish Arts Society to support their ongoing efforts to teach Inuit youth welding through artwork. Learn more about the program here: https://bit.ly/3ydTPSD As part of our partnership, Daryl Taptoona and Seth Zukwisky of Cambridge Bay will join their instructor Mark Slatter at the Goose Mine site for the next week. They will be working alongside members of the B2Gold team to participate in daily site operations and get insight into the careers their training at the Society can lead to. Please join us in welcoming Daryl and Seth to the Back River Project. #ResponsibleMining

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day for all Canadians to mark the history and legacy of the residential school system. It is also known as Orange Shirt Day — B2Gold employees in Canada received an orange T-shirt with a commissioned design by Nunavut Inuit artist, April Pigalak. The illustrated design features Truth and Reconciliation text in English, Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun (Netsilik Dialect), which are the languages in use by B2Gold Inuit employees at our Back River District operations and offices. The design also incorporates an illustration of a pair of children’s shoes, an image which has become a symbol of mourning for the children and youths who died in residential schools and for the Indigenous people, families and communities impacted by the schools. Our employees across Canada will be wearing their T-shirts in support, to honour the resilience, dignity and strength of survivors and intergenerational survivors, and remember the children who never came home.
