  • As the security industry continues to evolve, it's important for security and portfolio managers to stay ahead of the curve. However, we've noticed a concerning trend of Sunk Cost Fallacy and Survivorship Bias that can hinder critical assessment and re-validation in operations. To help combat this, we've put together a small article with examples that highlight the need to ask important questions. With Q1 of 2024 coming to a close, now is the perfect time for organizations to consider course correction. So, take a moment to reflect and ensure your operations are aligned with the changing security landscape. #security #securityprofessionals #securitycompany #securityguards #securityservices #securityservice #propertymanagers #propertymanagement #mobilepatrol #mobilesecurity #securitypatrol

I have noticed that security teams heavily support our new free mini-course on Personal Safety for Retail Staff. I appreciate your support. As this course is explicitly intended for retail sales staff, it might not meet the needs of front line security staff. Would a training course on security within retail be helpful? Not specifically on Retail Theft (technically, that occurs outside of store threshold and payment). But on social disturbances, staff abuse, etc., as well as the role of security within the retail industry and the role of security within a mall, If you think this might be helpful, please share a vote or comment. https://lnkd.in/gM5M-fjK

Hello everyone, I am thrilled to announce that we have completed the first revision of our Personal Safety for Retail Environments mini-course. This course is free and open to anyone wanting to learn how to stay safe while working in retail. Please share this with as many retail staff members as possible. I aim to help many frontline retail staff feel safe and secure while on the job. As the retail industry evolves, we must work together to bridge existing gaps. This course is just one small step towards achieving that goal. By completing this course, retail staff will better understand how to identify potentially dangerous behaviours and respond appropriately. They will also learn about the impact of stress on the brain and how to take action when needed. Additionally, the course covers essential topics like security risks vs. safety risks and how to identify trigger events that can promote safety. The knowledge gained from this course will enable retail staff to communicate more effectively about their experiences at work, use more precise terminology when reporting incidents, and feel more confident in working collaboratively with their leadership and management teams. Thank you for your attention, and I hope you will take advantage of this valuable learning opportunity. • I am excited to present our new Off-duty and Under-uniform apparel line, CODE: 1915. As you may know, front-line security professionals are facing unprecedented risks and threats in their daily activities. Unfortunately, too many have been getting hurt and losing their lives. It's time for us to contribute in some small way to build up a security community. Our goal is to create a sense of unity and connection among front-line security professionals. We want them to feel recognized and appreciated for their important work. By wearing something specific to the community, security personnel can feel a little more connected to something bigger. The security industry is vast, and it's easy for individuals to feel disconnected from their careers and jobs. However, we can change that. Our CODE:1915 is based on the Alphabetical Numbers for S.O. Security Operative. It's a short code that we frequently use to communicate with each other. We want to create a sense of belonging among security professionals by taking it into a community-building moment. We invite security organizations to cross-brand with us to help promote team unity. You can also use our products as giveaways during events and fundraisers. Let CODE:1915 be our call to action to start building a community, inspiring others, and helping us build a strong security community together. The security community can only improve if it has a strong industry culture that starts with the guards. Their professional mindset, attitude, and commitment will only benefit each employer and client. We appreciate each guard's contribution to keeping the community safer in their own way. For that, we say a very big thank you! We also plan to use a percentage of each sale to put towards post-critical event support. In our training at SCOPE, we have always encouraged Security Companies and Security Departments to have a small budget set aside to support their staff during critical events. Our encouragement is what's called "The 3rd Space". All too often, security professionals respond and resolve extremely critical events in either medical or behavioural situations. Yet, at the end of the shift, support stops and Employee Assistance Programs work but too far disconnected. We have encouraged the 3rd space to be a Denny's or something similar where the team can go to decompress after a specifically high-stress shift, and the employer provides the gift card as mental health support to cover the cost of the team's meals. With our CODE: 1915 initiative, we want to build a small pot where security companies and departments can apply for full or partial reimbursement of these gift cards. This way, we all support each other as a community in times of support. #mentalhealthmatters #security #securitycompany #securityguards #securityservices #SafeCanada #securityprofessionals #securitypatrol #propertymanagement #propertymanagement #mobilepatrol

  • I wanted to share a discovery conversation on trying to find a way to bridge the gap between security recruiters trying to find qualified candidates and individual candidates trying to get through the filtration process to land an interview.

I have a question for the different security company/department recruiters. If you know any, please share them within your network. This question is based on a previous discussion with Justin Hanson, CD. As a recruiter, how do you find, identify, and select candidates for security positions - both entry-level and experienced? I have observed the frustration from both organizations struggling to find good candidates as well as high-quality candidates struggling to make it through the initial submission process and falling short of being selected for an interview. My goal is to identify the gap between these two pain points and see if there is a way to bridge it. If a solution can be found, my hope is to help quality candidates navigate this ever-changing landscape more effectively. #security #securityindustry #hrdirectors #hrrecruitment #hrrecruiter #canadajobs #securityprofessionals #securityservices #careergoals #careerdevelopment

  • How does your organization build customer service into conflict prevention?

Let's dive into the world of customer service! Did you know that if delivered correctly, it could reduce conflict with members of the public and inter-departmental relationships? Have you ever noticed that many types of public-facing conflict arise when an individual is advocating for themselves? Unfortunately, they might come across as rude, forceful, and belligerent. But hey, let's not forget that they might be right in some cases about their self-advocacy. Customer service is a term that is thrown around a lot, yet very rarely delivered. I often bring this up in my training sessions, and almost always, people become defensive. But here’s the thing: customer service is one of those skills that, if you haven't experienced it personally, it's hard to create. We can empathize with the staff, and realize that it's not their fault about a policy or practice. We have all had some sort of experience where a new staff member is training another new staff member. So, as an organization, have you built customer service and communication into your workplace violence and harassment prevention? Or how do you measure the application of customer service? Let's discuss!

This is not a sales post. As a business and as a person, I did not align with the philosophy of body armour unless a risk/hazard assessment identified the need. However, as a company, we began making it because we could see environmental trends changing regarding frontline staff safety. From an organizational standpoint, what are some reasons or barriers that need to be considered when it comes to stab/slash rated body armour? #security #securityindustry #securityofficers #securityprofessional #securityservices #boma #propertymanagement #propertymanagers #propertymanager #mallmanagement #downtown #officebuildings #officebuildings #socialservices #mobilepatrol
