About us

The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall is a not-for-profit charitable organization operating two of Canada’s premier concert halls. Showcasing the world’s greatest performers in all disciplines, the Halls are also prominent venues for diverse activities in the business and entertainment district of downtown Toronto. Massey Hall opened in 1894 as a gift to the city of Toronto from the Massey family. Roy Thomson Hall, which opened in 1982, is the home of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, premier venue for the gala screenings of the Toronto International Film Festival and the venue of choice for corporate events throughout the year. It is named in memory of Roy Thomson, Lord Thomson of Fleet following a naming gift to the hall by the Thomson family. The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall is managed by a professional management team with a volunteer Board of Governors. The mission is: •to provide a world-renowned environment to showcase international arts and entertainment; •to provide public space for the cultural and corporate communities of the Greater Toronto Area; •to support the development of Canadian talent; •to increase and enhance our worldwide profile as a leader in the arts community through our professionalism and programming; and to be operationally self-sufficient

  • Today marks Massey Hall’s 130th anniversary and this morning, Mayor Olivia Chow Mayor Olivia Chow and City of Toronto honoured the National Historic Site’s immeasurable cultural impact with a celebratory scroll. Massey Hall opened on June 14, 1894, when prominent industrialist and philanthropist Hart Massey commissioned architect Sidney R. Badgley to design a memorial to his music-loving son, Charles Albert Massey as a gift to the citizens of Toronto. Today Massey Hall continues to honour Hart Massey’s vision and operates as a charitable not-for-profit organization and supports the arts through its programming, Education & Community Outreach and Artist Development initiatives. These mission-driven initiatives are generously supported by the contribution of live music fans, corporations and foundations throughout Canada.   • This past Saturday, we held the 2024 Lullaby Project Concert at Allied Music Centre highlighting a selection of nine new lullabies written between Spring 2022 and Spring 2024. The recording of this special performance is now available to view on our YouTube channel: https://loom.ly/rWsFdws The Lullaby Project, a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, gives new and expectant parents the opportunity to create and share a personal lullaby with the help of professional artists. The participants are offered a creative opportunity to communicate feelings, hopes, and dreams as they look to the future with their child. The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall became a Lullaby Project partner in 2017. Since then, over 70 participants have worked with artists to create lullabies that encapsulate their personal experiences, with lyrics and melodies full of emotion, vulnerability, and love.
