    Exosomes are perfect candidates to monitor disease, primarily because they are present in a variety of biological fluids, are released from all cells, and contain important information regarding the state of their parent cells. However many assay formats require exosomes to be isolated. Isolating exosomes from biological fluids has been a challenge in the past and while isolation processes such as ultracentrifugation have been considered the gold standard, they too have disadvantages as the high levels of force used can mechanically damage the integrity of exosomes. That is why Biosynth offer our customers a novel and specific exosome capture method that uses the Vn96 (US Patent # 8,956,878) https://lnkd.in/ekkVX3GY peptide reagent that binds to canonical HSPs found on the surface of exosomes. Vn96 isolation produces results comparable to ultracentrifugation, but at much great efficiency as 1/30th of the sample size is required.     Apoptosis is a crucial biological mechanism dictating the balance of cell death and survival. In doing so it plays a vital role in an organism's development, aging process, and defense mechanism to eliminate diseased or damaged cells from the body. If apoptosis is dysregulated, disease may arise. Increased apoptosis has been found in AIDs and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, whereas reduced apoptosis has been associated with autoimmune disorders and cancer. However, it is now known that scientists can manipulate the process of apoptosis. Novel therapeutics and natural compounds that can control a cell's fate have been discovered and can be used to treat diseases where apoptosis has become dysregulated. Biosynth Researchers working with Doron Shabat's group have published exciting work on accelerating the chemiexcitation of phenoxy-1,2-dioxetanes (a fancy way of saying making them emit light faster): 👉 https://lnkd.in/eauGGz4N Their secret weapon? Spirofusion with bicyclic 7-norbornyl and polycyclic homocubanyl units! The high strain in homocubanyl led to a phenomenal chemiexcitation rate, but stability issues emerged. However, the norbornyl counterpart provided a fantastic compromise – significantly faster chemiexcitation than the classic adamantyl version, with good stability. They even built a "turn-ON" probe for beta-galactosidase detection that showed a 9-fold improvement in sensitivity. This work is dedicated to the memory of 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝗘. 𝗘𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗻, a cubane pioneer.     • Boosting Chemiexcitation of Phenoxy-1,2-Dioxetanes through 7-Norbornyl and Homocubanyl Spirofusion. 

Biosynth CEO Urs Spitz looks back on the work of mentor and friend Philip E. Eaton, who passed away in July 2023 at 87. Prof Eaton pioneered the work of cubane, the "impossible" molecule. On his memory, Shabat's Group have developed a chemiluminescent probe that boosts the chemiexcitation by using cubane.
