“If you want something done well, do it yourself.” Our new blog highlights a project we had to launch in a field that was quite exotic to us: optics. It’s a dramatic story of why we weren’t happy with COTS cameras, how we came to design an aviation-grade computer vision instrument, and how we ended up taking the leading role in combining the effort of three companies who became our valuable partners: KAYA Instruments, Thorlabs, Dontech Inc. And, of course, we are happy to boast about what fantastic result it yielded! Check the blog out for impressive images demonstrating the power of the new instrument that we called VCU for the ‘Visual Capture Unit’. Big congratulations to the Daedalean team for making it happen: Ekaterina Rezugina, Bartosz Glowacki, Antonio Pascual del Rio, Laura Eckardt, Zoltán Pillió. #ComputerVision #MachineLearning #aerospace

We are proud to have played a part in the largest e-aircraft formation flight, setting a new world record (https://lnkd.in/d83Vnzgd) on August 9, 2024, over Lake Zurich, Switzerland. Our engineer and pilot Nathanael Köhler flew one of the Pipistrel Aircraft Velis Electro trainers in the six-aircraft formation. Daedalean’s Head of Flight Operations, Jonathan Brandt, shadowed with our Robinson 44 helicopter, as #ML Data Management Director Ad Eberhard recorded visual data for the ongoing training of our #AI-enhanced algorithms that form the basis of Daedalean's Situational Intelligence. Our staff engineer and accomplished photographer, Peter de Lange, captured stunning still photos of the record-setting flight. Check out a behind-the-scenes video (https://lnkd.in/dccriZi8). Congratulations to the Seenachtsfest where the flight took place, e-Force head Morell Westermann, who organized the flight, and all the pilots who achieved this momentous record. #pilots #aviation #sustainableaviation

“When vision-based solutions are paired with other sensory data, an autopilot benefits from the best of both worlds,” [Genesys Aerosystems General Manager Paul] Stoelting said. “Adding these new visual capabilities to the classical sensor information creates a level of situational awareness for the systems comparable to a human pilot.” In an article (https://lnkd.in/dRWFFaPr) published in this month's Avionics News, David Hughes digs into Daedalean's #AI-enhanced visual capabilities and the integration roadmap that Moog Inc.-owned Genesys Aerosystems is exploring for Daedalean systems, demystifying the technology while revealing its potential immediate and longterm boost to safe flight. #avionics #aviationsafety #aerospace #helicopter

We were thrilled to see that the Federal Aviation Administration has released “Roadmap for #ArtificialIntelligence Safety Assurance” (https://lnkd.in/dPMEt4Ns), providing the industry with the outline of its future regulatory approach. This is so important to the developers of #AI-based applications to know where the bar is set and how regulation requirements will be shaped. The document provides a realistic yet ambitious, pragmatic approach, perfectly fit to serve as a start of the journey along the road to adopting new technologies in #aviation. We were especially happy to read about an “Incremental Approach” principle: "starting with lower-risk applications to gain experience and inform broader applications and safety methods.” We believe that this is the only practical way to get where we want to go: getting experience first, making rules later. #Aerospace #certification
