The Frontiers Planet Prize is a global competition where three prizes of 1 million Swiss francs are awarded to scientists whose research contributes to helping humanity stay within the safe operating space of our Earth’s system. The 1st edition of the prize was launched on the 22nd of April 2022 (Earth Day) by the Frontiers Research Foundation, a non-profit organization established in Lausanne, Switzerland; with the mission to accelerate scientific solutions to live healthy lives on a healthy planet. With endorsement from the International Science Council and in search of the most impactful research breakthroughs, the Frontiers Planet Prize has engaged with hundreds of universities across 6 continents, national academies of science, and an independently run jury of 100 sustainability experts, chaired by Professor Johan Rockström.

*Frontiers Planet Prize Awards Ceremony Highlights* Last week, in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, we hosted the annual Frontiers Planet Prize (FPP) Awards Ceremony with The Villars Institute. The event featured workshops, poster sessions, and intergenerational exchanges with Villars Fellows—high school students trained in systems leadership. Over three days, 100 FPP community members, including National Champions, jury members, and special guests, gathered to celebrate and support the mission of the prize: mobilizing the academic community to identify and recognize the most impactful solutions for bringing us back within the #safeoperatingspace of our planet. On June 26th, twenty-three National Champions, including three International Champions accompanied by their co-authors, were announced. This marked the end of the second edition of the prize, which engaged 475 leading research institutions and 20 National Academies across six continents.
