*Frontiers Planet Prize Awards Ceremony Highlights* Last week, in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland, we hosted the annual Frontiers Planet Prize (FPP) Awards Ceremony with The Villars Institute. The event featured workshops, poster sessions, and intergenerational exchanges with Villars Fellows—high school students trained in systems leadership. Over three days, 100 FPP community members, including National Champions, jury members, and special guests, gathered to celebrate and support the mission of the prize: mobilizing the academic community to identify and recognize the most impactful solutions for bringing us back within the #safeoperatingspace of our planet. On June 26th, twenty-three National Champions, including three International Champions accompanied by their co-authors, were announced. This marked the end of the second edition of the prize, which engaged 475 leading research institutions and 20 National Academies across six continents. Watch this video to view highlights from the Award Ceremony event and stay tuned to hear more about the upcoming third edition of the prize! #planetaryboundaries #planetaryhealth https://lnkd.in/d5XKc78D

The panel at our Awards Ceremony, 'How can planetary boundary research be shaped and amplified to influence policy and practice, enabling a sustainable future?', focused on exploring how the transformative power of systems-based research in planetary boundary science, which identifies potential pathways for solutions, can be leveraged to influence industry, economics, governance, and policy. Key takeaways from the panel: 👉 Scientists need to become actors outside the scientific community, specifically in the policy space, for their insights to be translated into real-world impact. This requires a two-way communication between scientists and policy makers. 👉 We need to train people in multiple stages of their career on the topic of sustainability so they can participate and learn from the latest scientific developments. 👉 What enables science to impact society is innovation and the innovation we need should be need-based, vision-driven and transformative. 👉 We need to promote the adoption of three core values along the science-innovation chain: caring, sharing, and daring Panelists: Johan Rockstrom, Director, PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research Salvatore Aricò , Chief Executive Officer, International Science Council Massamba Thioye, Project Executive of the UN Climate Change Innovation Hub, UNFCCC UN Nicole Schwab, Co-Head, Nature Positive Pillar, World Economic Forum Celine Abecassis-Moedas, Professor and Dean for Executive Education, Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics #EarthSystemScience #PlanetaryBoundaryScience #PlanetaryHealth #SciencePolicy The Villars Institute
