The green transition is crucial in combatting climate change, but it must also be fair. UN Environment Programme and Global Environment Facility hosted an important panel discussion on "Finance for Integrating Climate and Nature Actions” at the Faith Pavilion during COP29 Azerbaijan last week. The event explored how countries and financial institutions can align financing for climate and biodiversity goals to accelerate #NetZero and nature positive actions. The discussion included important insights from our speakers, including Atika Ben Maïd, Usher, E., Mariana Panuncio-Feldman, moses ama, and Filippo Berardi, on leveraging synergies between nature and climate investments, and was moderated by Asher Lessels. 🌐 Mobilizing finance for NDCs – the role of Finance Ministries: Insights from the COP29 Co-Chairs Summary 💵🌱 On Finance Day at #COP29, the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action brought together nearly 30 member countries to address how finance ministries can turn Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) into actionable climate solutions. Finance ministries face a complex policy trilemma: managing public debt, meeting climate spending needs, and navigating tax resistance amidst higher costs of living. ✨Focused on sharing insights and strengthening efforts to help finance ministries overcome these challenges and unlock essential funds to turn NDCs into action, the ministerial meeting featured three focused sessions: 1. 🌍Exploring the key challenges and opportunities for finance ministries in allocating public finance and mobilizing private investments to meet mitigation and adaptation goals of NDCs. 2. 🤝 Effective coordination mechanisms, such as country platforms, for the mobilization of financing for NDCs, with a particular emphasis on the role of finance ministries. 3. 📊Supporting countries in mobilizing financing for NDCs and NAPs through funding partnerships and private sector engagement. 💡Read the Co-Chairs’ Summary Note and learn about the critical role of finance ministries in the innovative solutions discussed during the meeting: https://lnkd.in/eShAKgKn #NDCs #NAPs #ClimateAction #FinanceMinistersforClimate

🌍 It’s Time for ‘Adaptation Smart’ Credit Ratings 🌡️   Climate change puts immense pressure on governments and financial institutions, especially in emerging economies.
