The second edition of the International Student Project HOLATAM is in the books – what a journey this has been!🎉 With the final presentation marking the official end last week, we wanted to take the time to reflect on our experiences and say our "final" goodbyes.👋 Our first task last July was to define a topic for the second edition of HOLATAM. After many discussions and evaluations, we wanted to cover a topic that is highly relevant at the moment – digitalisation. Furthermore, we wanted to shine a light on an aspect that affects every one of us – health. The result was “Digitalisation: The Future of Health”. We then continued our search for the right destinations and discovered that Brazil and Argentina are at the forefront of digitalisation in the healthcare sector in Latin America. Once the destinations were established, what was missing was a top-notch delegation that was as interested in this topic as we were – and we definitely found them!🙏 After months of planning and exploring our theme, the Seminar in Switzerland was finally around the corner, where we had the opportunity to welcome esteemed keynote speakers and even two representatives of the embassies of Argentina and Brazil. The highlight of our experience was undoubtedly the Seminar Abroad. During our two weeks in Latin America, we got to meet great people, dive deeper into our topic by learning about digitalisation developments in the healthcare sector in South America and explore as well as experience the vibrant cultures of Argentina and Brazil first-hand.💃🏼 To conclude, this journey has been incredibly enriching for the entire team! We were able to grow both personally and professionally, and are extremely grateful to everyone who has been supporting and accompanying us and this project throughout the past year – it surely would not have been the same without you!🤝 As you have probably heard by now, HOLATAM will pause next year but will be back for the edition 2025/26. We are already extremely excited for the next team to take over, and wish all the other ISPs (Insight China, Focus India, connectUS, and exploreASEAN) much success in the upcoming edition in the meantime! Take care and “hasta luego”, The ISP team of HOLATAM 2023/24🧡

Our Seminar Abroad has come to an end! Reflecting on an unforgettable journey at our last destination - São Paulo! 📅 Monday, 01.04.2024: The new week started with a company visit at Roche Brazil, where Bernardo Tinoco gave us a quick tour through the building and then talked about the Brazilian health market and shared illuminating perspectives as well as a comparison of the advancements in the digital health sector across countries. In the afternoon, it was time for the presentations of our delegation members which are a part of their assignment. They dived deeper into the topics of political and innovation systems as well as the economic situation of the two countries we visited. 🌎 📅 Tuesday, 02.04.2024: On Tuesday, we were able to visit the Brazilian representatives of our joint sponsor, Blaser Swisslube. Marcelo Kuroda provided an overview of Blaser's operations in Brazil, followed by Alessandro Alcantarilla's insightful talk on additive manufacturing in the healthcare sector. After a short coffee break, Luciana Diniz Salgado dived more into our topic "Digitalisation: The future of health". Afterwards, we were able to visit the offices of Blaser in Brazil and found some piece of home in the familiar alpine landscapes adorning the walls. Once again a huge thank you to Blaser Swisslube for the great support throughout our project! 🙏🏼 The afternoon was spent at the IFC - International Finance Corporation which is part of the World Bank Group. Its aim is to improve the lives of people in developing countries by investing in private sector development. In the evening, we had our last official joint dinner which was filled with a lot of laughter and memories about our newest experiences. 📅 Wednesday, 03.04.2024: This day was very special. We went to the Associação Casa dos Curumins, which is an institution for kids to come to before or after school, to engage and participate in interesting and fun activities. These kids come here as it is too dangerous in the favelas, where they would often spend their time on the streets. The house offers everyone the opportunity to make real and lasting changes. ❤️ We were warmly welcomed by everybody - we danced together, played ping-pong and football, we drew paintings and just had a really good time with the kids. They also has an art school where they can learn how to play an instrument and they do art, like painting canvas. The afternoon was free. Most of the group wandered through the streets of the city and did some last minute shopping and enjoyed the sunny weather in the park. 🌞 📅 Thursday, 04.04.2024: Thursday sadly already marked the ending of our Seminar Abroad! We had our last travel day and safely landed in Switzerland on Friday morning. ✈ The time flew by so fast, and we were all able to gather lots of impressions, make new friends and enjoy our time together. 🤩 Thank you to everyone involved and a special thanks to Adrianne Kyjovsky for planning these unforgettable weeks! 🙏🏼

📆 Thursday, 28.03.2024: Our first full day in the „Cidade Maravilhosa“ (Marvelous City) commenced with a breakfast at our hotel before heading to Swissnex in Brazil. The organisation offers a global network, connecting education, research and innovation. After their presentation, our delegates received some time to work on their own presentations that they will present in São Paulo. In the afternoon, we headed to the Instituto D'Or de Pesquisa e Ensino in Botafogo, where we listened to Daniel Furtado who talked about the institute and their corporation, which is the largest private network of integrated healthcare in Brazil and Latin America. One interesting fact is that their network has more ICU beds than Germany in its entirety. We ended the day with a joint dinner to indulge in some Brazilian specialities and enjoyed getting to spend more time with our great delegation!🙏 📆 Friday, 29.03.2024: As Good Friday is one of Brazil‘s highest holidays, we have used the day to see more of the city on a guided tour. We started at the viewpoint of the Leblon beach, overlooking the 1.3km promenade, then moved on to experience the famous Copacabana beach with a quick walk. As the day progressed, we went up to the renowned Pão de Açúcar from where we got to see a fabulous view of Rio de Janeiro. As lunchtime approached, we headed to the city centre to get some lunch, before visiting the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, one of the two most beautiful and important theatres of Brazil, before heading to the Escadaria Selarón where the tour ended. 📆 Saturday, 30.03.2024: Today was a day off for the entire team, which we all took advantage of to visit popular monuments and engage in the activities of our choice. Most of the delegation members went up the Corcovado to see the famous Cristo Redentor in its full beauty and enjoy the astonishing view of the Pão de Açúcar in the morning. In the afternoon, one group participated in a favela tour, while some people enjoyed the sun at either the Copacabana or Ipanema beach. Towards the evening, some members of the delegation went to the football stadium to watch the final match between Nova Iguaçu and Flamengo, while one group booked a helicopter ride to experience Rio de Janeiro from above. 📆 Sunday, 31.03.2024: It is travel day again!✈ On Easter Sunday, we hopped on the short flight to our unfortunately already last destination: São Paulo. The group was split in two and both groups arrived safely at the hotel. The afternoon was at everyone‘s disposal to either finish up their presentations or explore the city. Since it was our accompanying staff Barbara Dr. Eisenbart‘s birthday, we made sure to celebrate her with some drinks and a delicious meal. We are excited to see what São Paulo has in store for us in the upcoming days!🙌

What an incredible experience we have had in Buenos Aires! Here is a brief summary of the enriching activities we have been engaging in throughout the past few days: 📆 Monday, 25.03.2024: This day was filled with an insightful visit to the Hospital Universitario Austral outside of Buenos Aires. After the hour-long drive, we dived into the world of digital transformation at the hospital, gaining valuable perspectives from their expert team. Then, we had the opportunity to walk around the private non-profit organisation and the connected campus. In the afternoon, we engaged in diverse presentations about the digitalisation in the healthcare sector at the IAE Business School, welcoming Diego Branca and Maria Pia Orihuela S. from Roche Pharma Argentina, Carlos Lanardonne, the president of Novartis Argentina, and Maria Silvia Abalo from the Swiss-Argentine Chamber of Commerce. To round up the insightful day, we held an interesting panel discussion with Corina van waveren and Joan Manuel González Guevara who discussed diverse ideas to optimise the healthcare sector and especially the nursing department. This includes implementing a QR code which allows a caretaker to easily access important personal data about a patient, as this fosters the human approach and makes an employee more sensitive to the patient‘s reality.🙏 📆 Tuesday, 26.03.2024: Our final day in Buenos Aires was nothing short of remarkable. A visit to the Swiss-Argentine Chamber of Commerce sparked dynamic discussions with industry leaders from Roche, Novartis, and the Hospital Italiano, shaping our understanding of healthcare digitalisation. The afternoon at UADE Business School's Xperience Center immersed us in a captivating Virtual Reality workshop, deepening our understanding of VR technology and interacting with Global Business students.🌐  As the sun set on our time in Buenos Aires, we gathered for a memorable dinner, celebrating newfound friendships and unforgettable experiences. 📆 Wednesday, 27.03.2024: Wednesdays are for travelling - at least this week!✈ We started the day slow, enjoying the last traditional medialunas before heading to the airport to start the journey towards Brazil. Fortunately, everyone punctually made it on board (some more than others), and we could enjoy the 3 hours of the flight. Once in Rio de Janeiro, we were welcomed by a cloudy sky and headed to the hotel to check in after a long travel day. To finish the day off, most of the group indulged in a dinner at a restaurant which only used local ingredients and served traditional Brazilian food. Thank you, Buenos Aires, for being an incredible first destination on this Seminar Abroad of the HOLATAM 2023/24 edition and we are excited to see what the upcoming days in Rio de Janeiro bring….we definitely hope that it will include a bit better weather!☀

What a week! 🙌 As the Seminar Abroad is fast approaching and the final planning stage is in full swing, we wanted to take some time to reflect on the Seminar in Switzerland. We once again thank everyone involved, from the organisation through Lana Kurth as the responsible for the Seminar in Switzerland and the entire HOLATAM - ISP Latin America team, the interesting guest speakers and the representatives from both the embassy of Brazil and Argentina, to our sponsor Blaser Swisslube and our in-kind supporters who all greatly contributed to the success of this year’s edition! 🙏 During the week-long seminar, we were able to enrich our understanding of the impact digitalisation has on healthcare and foster a deeper connection among our delegation members. We are happy to take you along on our journey to Argentina and Brazil at the end of the month and are already looking forward to further engaging with you. Stay tuned for next week when our infographic, summarising the Seminar in Switzerland, will be launched. 🔍
