Info
The IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) is a science-based network of thousands of volunteer experts from almost every country of the world, all working together towards achieving the vision of "a just world that values and conserves nature through positive action to reduce the loss of diversity of life on earth". Our more than 10,500 experts work independently and with the IUCN Global Species Programme to build knowledge on the status of species and threats to them, and to provide advice, develop policies and guidelines and facilitate conservation planning. Through this work, SSC catalyses conservation action and enables IUCN to influence policy and assist societies in biodiversity conservation.

🌍🌿 Mangrove forests, once abundant along tropical coastlines, have faced significant losses due to human activities. These incredible ecosystems play a crucial role in storing carbon, protecting coastal communities, and providing habitats for many fish and crustacean species. Thanks to increased public awareness and dedicated conservation efforts, the decline of mangroves has slowed in recent years. However, 50% of the world's mangrove ecosystems are at risk of collapse. Join the IUCN SSC Mangrove Specialist Group (MSG) in celebrating and protecting these vital ecosystems. Whether through sharing their beauty, participating in local clean-ups, or visiting mangrove forests, everyone can make a difference. 🔗 MSG Mangrove Day statement: https://lnkd.in/gZDS3vNh #MangroveDay #SaveMangroves #Conservation #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #WeAreSSC #SaveSpecies

📣 The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) has improved from Endangered to Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™, thanks to dedicated conservation efforts. From just 62 mature individuals in 2001 to over 2,000 today, this is a triumph for biodiversity! “As the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species celebrates its 60th anniversary, its importance cannot be overstated as the most complete source of information on the state of the world’s biodiversity. It is an essential tool that measures progress towards halting nature loss and achieving the 2030 global biodiversity goals. The improvement in the Red List status of the Iberian lynx shows that successful conservation works for wildlife and communities alike,” said Dr Grethel Aguilar, IUCN Director General.
