Hosting His Majesty’s Ambassador, James Squire, was an opportunity to showcase how innovation and purpose drive everything we do. At uptownBasel, we’re not just a global hub for quantum computing; we’re a center for #sustainability, social #impact, and groundbreaking #technology, attracting talent from across the world. One of the highlights was Dr. Frederik Flöther’s presentation of QuantumBasel, Switzerland’s first commercial quantum computing hub, where partnerships with IonQ, highlighted our leadership in #transformative tech - as demonstrated by Noam Zakay. But the vision doesn’t stop at tech. I was excited to share our sustainability journey, including our waste #heat project that aims to warm 10,000 Basel homes—an inspiring example of responsible growth with impact. A huge thank you to Hans-Jörg Fankhauser, Baschi Dürr, Martina N., Camilla Chalmers, and Emma Blum-Horobin for making this meaningful visit possible. I felt like an ambassador myself, sharing our vision for a sustainable, tech-driven future that creates lasting value. Bringing people together to talk quantum in Zurich and Basel! As part of the Danish national strategic focus on Quantum technologies we have brought a broad representation from the Danish quantum ecosystem to Switzerland to meet their counterparts and/or possible collaboration partners. Starting the day at the globally top ranked university ETH Zürich, we have heard about state-of-the art quantum research and seen labs with spin outs in the making! Thanks to Anu Unnikrishnan and colleagues at the Quantum Center for the warm welcome! Tilman Esslinger Andreas Wallraff, Jonathan Home and Mihael Erakovic We were excited to meet researchers at IBM Research Rüschlikon where we had the opportunity to learn how they bridge the gap between research and industry and how AI is improving quantum. We enjoyed the total silence of the amazing Noise-free lab and the clanking sounds of the Quantum Transduction Lab and the futuristic Atomic Manipulation Lab! Our Consul General and Executive Director, Klaus Werner, thanked Ambassador Jacques Ducrest for the warm welcome! Both highlighted the importance of the good collaboration between our countries. Thanks also to the Swiss Innovation Parks for meeting us! Thanks Pascale Dychter-Schmid and Liv Minder! At uptownBasel we have met QAI Ventures who have a 5-month accelerator programme, boot camps and scale up programmes to support quantum entrepreneurs. We learnt about their startup ecosystem – and meeting the startups in person is always inspiring! We were presented with QuantumBasel, Phoenix Technologies AG and the Swiss Quantum Agenda by Andreas Masuhr from the Swiss Quantum Initiative. Learning from use cases from NCCR SPIN: Spin Qubits in Silicon, who e.g. support young researchers and communicate quantum through art, and University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW who engage many industrial partners, teaching quantum tech for non-physicists. Today, we concluded an inspiring first day of the ACAM Annual Meeting 2024 at uptownBasel, where our community gathered to advance the future of #additivemanufacturing! 🎉   Our day featured a series of Working Group Meetings, where members delved into emerging trends, evaluated strategic opportunities, and explored cutting-edge advancements in Materials and Technology for metals and polymers. We covered key topics, from optimizing operational processes for greater efficiency and scalability to developing innovative design and product applications that maximize the potential of #additive technologies.   Highlight of the day was our Project-Voting Session, where Working Group members had the opportunity to prioritize upcoming initiatives. This collaborative voting process is essential for aligning our collective goals with the most impactful projects for the future of AM.   We are deeply grateful to uptownBasel for not only providing an exceptional venue but also for enriching our discussions with valuable insights. Fostering partnerships and collaboration between the quantum ecosystems in Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. This will include meetings with key players from universities, research institutes, start-ups, investors and corporates. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass bis 2030 in der Schweiz rund 40'000 ICT-Fachkräfte fehlen. Wie wollen wir diese Lücke aber schliessen? Ganz einfach! - Studienangebote und Ausbildungsplätze schaffen. 👩🎓 👨🏫 💎 Die Universität Basel entwickelt hierzu einen trinationalen IT-Studiengang, der mehrerer Hochschulen vereint und ihre IT-Kompetenzen bündelt. 💎 Hinzu kommt die geplante Hochschule für Informatik der Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW, die unserer Region zusätzlich mehr Bedeutung in Bezug auf den ICT-Sektor verschaffen wird. 💎 Doch nicht nur die Studienangebote sind entscheidend für ein nachhaltiges IT-Ökosystem. Auch die Ausbildung von Lernenden muss gewährleistet werden. Der Informatik Lehrbetriebsverband (ILV) soll hier Abhilfe schaffen und die ICT-Berufe mittels gezieltem Berufsmarketing attraktiver machen. 💎 Nebst uptownBasel, das der Region mit seiner Quantentechnologie eine besondere Präsenz verleiht, liegt ein besonderes Augenmerk neu auch auf dem AI Innovation Center in Allschwil. Hier ist auch der ICT Campus Handelskammer beider Basel anzutreffen, der junge Tech-Talente anzieht.
