VOGT is an international landscape architecture firm, founded in Zurich (2000) with offices in Berlin, London and Paris.
Info
Nature is the subject matter and medium of the daily work of VOGT. Our work ranges from small-town squares to metropolitan parks. Based on the given brief and the specific context of the site, we develop concepts and establish interdisciplinary dialogues with architects, artists and planners. To us, designing is a collective act that involves many partners and is primarily to be understood as a process – starting from a paradigm by way of a physical working model and, finally, the built landscape intended as a model. The work of VOGT is therefore characterized by the dialogue established between the various disciplines and its close cooperation with artists. During the technical development of the project, concrete solutions mature and insights emerge, and realistic images – significant, present and true – materialise. Our commitment is focused on vegetation. In plants, life becomes visible and brings processes within our range of experience. VOGT Landschaftsarchitekten was founded in Zurich (2000) with offices in Berlin, London and Paris. Attached to the firm is, moreover, the VOGT Case Studio, as an interface between the practice and the theoretical and investigative studies. As a platform for exhibitions and debates, the Case Studio also is an instrument for the training and further education of the employees, who play a central role in the corporate culture of VOGT.

Keynote by Günther Vogt: "Making Space Public – Public Space in the Making" at the GLA Conference in Taipei, Taiwan on October 11th at 1:30 pm. This lecture will discuss what it means to design public space in the 21st century, exploring its historical origins and transformation in today's cities. Urban public space is fundamental to the "new green era" of contemporary cities–the theme of this conference–yet it is under threat from the increasing privatisation and commercialisation of space. In this lecture we propose a series of "urban qualities" that constitute true public space in the 21st century. These qualities will be illustrated with design examples from the work of VOGT Landscape Architects, including the recently inaugurated market square Grote Markt in the Netherlands and the Wall Bench at Tate Modern in London. https://lnkd.in/e5_Nk-vv © pictures 1: Corné Sparidaens, 2: Christian Vogt #vogtlandschaftsarchitekten #vogtlandscape #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign #Charette #Conference #Taipei #Taiwan #TILA #ANewGreenEra #publicspace #günthervogt #grotemarktgroningen #tatemodernlondon

Am Tacheles is presented and discussed amongst other projects in the current issue of the Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekt:innen bdla magazine 3/2024. The edition is dedicated to green urban spaces and the revitalisation of city centres. Am Tacheles, Berlin 2016-23. Corresponding to the architectural setting, Vogt Berlin have designed the open space, resulting in various typologies such as passage, square, courtyard, and garden. Despite their multiple functions and high usage, each of these spaces contributes to the ecological quality and resilient development of the neighbourhood by achieving a proven biotope area factor on the site through numerous new plantings, green roofs and permeable surfaces. The bark of trees bears diverse morphologies between different species of trees. It has an expressive structure, more or less regularised, and always evolving, appearing differently depending on whether the tree is young or mature and according to its life episodes. At Case Studio Vogt, we capture imprints of various elements to gather physical information about our environment, a valuable method also for studying tree barks and learning to identify species through the expression of their structural lines and textures by reading the rhythm through both manual and digital techniques alike. Either with charcoal and paper or by developing digital techniques using the potential of in-house scanning, which allow us to analyse the living morphology of the trees, merging form, texture, and colour with 3D data, which can then be utilised in the office for prototyping and 3D modelling. Recently, one of our shop windows at our Zurich location is newly curated, revealing passers-by a glimpse into our work. #vogtlandscape #vogtlandscapearchitects #vogtlandschaftsarchitekten #casestudiovogt #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign #analog #bark #trees #digital #technology #research #designpractice #drone #photogrammetry #pointclouds

On 30th August, the new village square in Balzers, Liechtenstein, will open. After four years of planning and construction, the new square has been completed and is open to the public. Rows of lime and honey locust trees, pine groves, along with finely designed pavilions at the ends of the square, frame the open space in the centre. Long benches under the trees and the northern arbour flank the square, inviting the community to pause and enjoy the views of the square's centre, the village core, and the surrounding mountains. The square’s centre has been crafted with a refined concrete surface with pebble inlays, integrating the existing village fountain. Rhine gravel of different grain sizes is used as an aggregate in the concrete, made visible by grinding the top layer. The structure and colour of the gravel make the geological origins visible and create a link to the local history of the site. The square’s surface reflects the ever-changing weather conditions, with patterns that evolve from rays of sunlight or raindrops. The newly designed village square offers a versatile space for the residents of Balzers. From August 30th to September 1st, the opening of the new village square will be celebrated with festivities. Book Launch Preannouncement "39 Garden Plans – Unusual Gardens for an Ordinary House" In the 1960s, Sørensen developed the 39 garden plans using the simple yet effective tool of variant studies. He thus created an offer for the imagination and realisation of gardens as needs-based open spaces, which simultaneously become atmospheric places that can be experienced in an artistic form of expression. The newly published garden plans are enriched by overview-like excerpts from Sørensen’s extensive oeuvre and design-strategic annotations by Günther Vogt. Particularly in times of increasing distinction between the private and the public spaces, they serve to analyse the open space type of the (urban) garden - even beyond the private sphere. These concepts are especially relevant today, addressing contemporary challenges such as individualisation, extreme weather events, digitisation, and privatisation, and countering the prevalent design uniformity and lack of social public spaces in European urban landscapes. The first phase of the Helvetia Campus in Basel was recently completed. Though some work remains, one of the two gardens, the one in the inner area (garden courtyard) facing the private buildings, is now open to employees and the public. The deliberate spatial creation through soil modeling and thoughtful vegetation planting is already showing good results and is blossoming brightly in these early summer days. Considering legal and construction requirements, walkable areas have been partially unsealed to maximise the green space. In this design, we developed a layered plant composition with at least two-thirds of the selected plants being native species, which contributes to ecological richness and biodiversity. 1st prize competition entry "Süd-See Zug" with Christ & Gantenbein ! VOGT and Christ & Gantenbein win the competition for the redesign of the former site of the Zug Cantonal Hospital. The design preserves the existing hospital structures from the 1970s and 1980s and expands the urban layout through adaptive reuse measures. These extensions integrate a series of buildings designed around an inner courtyard, opening to a public square towards the lake, the "City Courtyard".
