“State of AI in Healthcare in Sub-Saharan Africa.” I am delighted to share this first report of the "State of AI in Africa" series. Four other issues will follow in the coming weeks.
[REPORT SERIES] Introducing: The State of AI in Sub-Saharan Africa 🌍 Report Series, presented by CEIMIA and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Report 1️⃣: State of AI in Healthcare in Sub-Saharan Africa As a key player in the responsible development of AI in accordance with #humanrights, #inclusion, #diversity, #innovation and economic growth principles, CEIMIA has a role to play to ensure that all regions are included in discussions around #AI and that the benefits generated by this technology are distributed in a more equitable manner than with previous ones. In this context, as part of CEIMIA’s African Strategy and in collaboration with IDRC, we are launching a series of reports on the state of AI in Sub-Saharan Africa. It will comprehend a total of 5 reports plus a white paper. Each of the reports will draw portraits of AI’s presence and adoption in key sectors across the continent, starting with the State of AI in Healthcare 💉 👇 📗 https://lnkd.in/e3UAV-2G -- [SÉRIE DE RAPPORTS] Introduction : État des lieux de l'IA en Afrique subsaharienne 🌍, une série de rapports présentée par CEIMIA et le International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

I highly recommend this article by Seydina M. Ndiaye published in the newspaper Le Monde, which presents AI risks being ineffective in solving issues unique to Africa. He also suggests ways in which African AI players can take advantage of the best of AI and put it to work for the people of Africa. Last week, at the GPAI summit 2023, I had the pleasure to be part of the panel: AI's Transformational Path: India and Africa Unite for Sustainable Development. It was a great moment of sharing with Kirti Pandey, Seydina M. Ndiaye, Alison Gillwald, Ankur Bansal, Vineet Bhandari. We shared our experiences in AI applied to different domaines, from Data justice to agriculture. We insisted on taking into account the realities of our different contexts in AI projects; then, we explored the different avenues for better India-Africa collaboration. Many thanks to CEIMIA , GPAI and GIZ India for facilitating this great conversation. Digital India Programme, #GPAI #AI #GPAI2023 #IndiaAI

I'm thrilled and beyond excited to announce that I've been selected as an Outreachy intern! This is a HUGE accomplishment for me, and I'm so grateful for this amazing opportunity. Outreachy is an incredibly competitive internship program where people from all over the world apply to contribute to open-source projects. This year, only 59 interns were selected from a pool of thousands of applicants around the world. I'm one of the only two interns from Pakistan, which makes this achievement even more special. This is a dream come true for me. As an Outreachy intern, I'm excited to be working on the Mboalab's mboastethoscope app, a project that aims to make high-quality stethoscopes more accessible to physicians and allied health professionals in low- and middle-income countries under the mentorship of exceptional Ruqaiya Sattar (She / Her). I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Outreachy community leads Omotola Omotayo, Sage Sharp, Anna e só 🧑🏻🦯 and organizers for providing me with this life-changing opportunity. I also want to thank the Mboalab community leads Thomas Hervé Mboa Nkoudou, PhD, JAFSIA Elisee, and Stephane Fadanka whose vision inspires countless individuals. as the high cost of modern stethoscopes is a significant barrier to healthcare. Mboastethoscope provides a more affordable and accessible alternative by utilizing digital technology and open-source principles. This project has the potential to significantly improve healthcare access for millions of people. A special shoutout to Mughees Mb for helping me get started with open source and for his continued support. Your help has been invaluable. I am so grateful for all of the support I have received. I am excited to get started on my internship and to make a positive contribution to the open-source community! This is a huge milestone for me, and I can't wait to see what the future holds. #Outreachy #Internship #OpenSource #Mboalab #Mboastethoscope #Grateful #Excited #DreamComeTrue

It was a great pleasure for me to take part in this discussion. "Thomas Nkoudou, AI researcher at CEIMIA, advocated for Africa’s active participation in the global AI landscape. He underscored the need for Africa to carve out its own space in the AI realm, shaping its own narrative and engaging in the ongoing discourse, and said Africa had great potential for innovation, fueled by its abundant young talent."
