With breast cancer being the most common cancer among women globally – and responsible for around a quarter of all cancers in women with millions of new cases every year – October is an important awareness month. And one that is very close to us at Fresenius Kabi as we strive to make a difference in high-quality oncological care. Our respective portfolio plays an important role in chemotherapy protocols, and through our ambitions in the biopharmaceuticals segment, we are improving access to quality cancer care. Especially inspiring to me is the personal dedication I experienced this month throughout the Kabi organization: from charity runs to awareness events, our colleagues across the world stand united, embodying the values we hold dear. Today, I'm particularly moved by the story of my colleague Shanu, a breast cancer survivor who courageously shares her journey and how it has given her a renewed sense of purpose. Today‘s office? The beach! 🐚 Recently, our UK marketing team and business partners participated in the Great British Beach Clean, hosted by the Marine Conservation Society, at West Kirby beach near Liverpool. By clearing litter, they contributed not only to cleaner beaches but also to Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Programme, a global initiative that has engaged over 18 million volunteers to remove 380 million pounds (~ 172,000 tons) of trash from UK waterways 🌊. Their efforts have contributed to significant changes in policies, like bans on microplastics and plastic bag charges. United for a good cause! 🎗️ While our commitment to those affected by breast cancer is year-round, this month we are especially focused on raising awareness and standing in solidarity. Our teams from all over the world – including our colleagues from Fresenius Group, Helios Kliniken GmbH, and Quirónsalud – are contributing through a variety of initiatives. Some inspiring examples: 🇮🇹 Our Italian colleagues from our MedTech hub in Mirandola joined the local Pink Walk with their families, raising awareness and much needed funds. 🇪🇺 🇫🇷 For the teams of Fresenius Kabi Region Europe and Fresenius Kabi France, both located in Paris, it has become a tradition to gear up for the annual Odyssea Run that successfully raised 6.2 million for breast cancer research over the past two decades. This year, our group was especially large and enthusiastic. 🇱🇹 Our colleagues in Lithuania took part in the annual Pink Run that supports affected women on their way to recovery. 🇪🇨 Our team in Ecuador created a mural of hands to show that every hand counts in the fight against breast cancer, engaged in awareness talks and shared tips related to cancer care and prevention. 🇺🇸 The Women’s VOICE Employee Impact Group from Fresenius Kabi USA joined forces with the American Cancer Society in the fight against breast cancer at Making Strides, a community fundraising event that raises vital funds to support breast cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers throughout their journey. 🏆 So proud! Fresenius Kabi has been recognized with the Sustainability Championship Award 2024 in the category Energy Transformation at the Sustainability Kongress in Berlin, hosted by the Berlin Institute for Supply Chain Management. This honor highlights our innovative approach to reducing CO2 emissions and conserving resources within Fresenius Kabi, in particular at our facility in Friedberg, Germany. The Sustainability Kongress brings together top managers and decision-makers to present solutions, share best practices and tackle the key challenges of our time. Our colleagues Hans-Christian Meyer, Head of Global Advanced Manufacturing Operations, and Tobias Listmann, Director Operations Processes, represented us at the event, sharing insights during a panel discussion with fellow award winners. The award-winning project, led by Tobias Listmann and Carina Schlein, Energy Efficiency Engineer, originated from our Global Competence Cluster’s Championship Day – an internal idea competition where all colleagues can submit plans for energy and water-saving measures, making valuable contributions to improve our environmental performance. Carina’s and Tobias’ project focuses on reducing CO2 emissions by reusing heat from our production process in Friedberg. Exciting news! 🎉 Dr. Sandra Emily Stoll, Senior Physician at the University Hospital Cologne, Germany, is the recipient of our 2024 Clinical Nutrition Research Award, granted in collaboration with the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM). Dr. Stoll’s research, titled “Impact of Cyclic Enteral Daytime Feeding with Ketogenic Nighttime Fasting on Postoperative Delirium in Critically Ill Patients (DeliKet-Study),” has been recognized with a €20,000 grant to support her important work. Through initiatives like this, we continue to advance the science of clinical nutrition and improve outcomes for critically ill patients.
