Sounds like a perfect start - but now its all about reaching the moon of High Performance Computing - sustained performance to provide real solutions for real problems. With Hunter we have started a journey into the future of HPC. The pictures show happy people coming together to celebrate - and we have reason to be happy. Hunter is our first step - and that is why we call it a stepping-stone. The next steps are to follow soon: Spring 2025: we start construction work for our new energy efficient data center, which will use our exhaust heat to heat the University of Stuttgart. Summer 2025: we plan to run our procurement for the AI-Factory called HammerHAI to sign a contract this year. 2026: we plan to have first installations for HammerHAI up and running to see Hunter and HammerHAI march side by side for our scientific and industrial users. 2027: we will see our new data center start operation. 2027: we will see Herder soaking in Hunter and moving towards the next level of performance for science and industry with HammerHAI and Herder providing one of the most comprehensive infrastructure projects in HPC. All of this will be the result of hard work by many people for many more years. And each person on the picture below stands for tens and hundreds of others who will help us to be successful. #JUPITER compute time exclusively awarded by the ‘Gauss AI Compute Competition’! 🎉 The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg and the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts have today launched a 🚩competition for computing time on the first European exascale supercomputer JUPITER. 💻 As part of the ‘Gauss-AI-Compute Competition’, which Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) is conducting together with us, researchers will have 📌 privileged access to JUPITER 📌 for a certain period of time. A total of around 15 million GPU hours ⏰ will be available for this purpose once the exascale computer goes into operation. Researchers who are successful in the competition can use these resources to train new fundamental models for #AI applications. 🤖 The Gauss AI Compute Competition is designed to support projects that effectively use JUPITER's powerful technology, while also having a high degree of societal impact. 🙌 The call for submissions ends on 👉17 March 2025. HLRS welcomes Hunter! Today, we proudly hosted a celebration to inaugurate our newest supercomputer. Guests of honor including Petra Olschowski, Minister of Science, Research, and Art for Baden-Württemberg; Prof. Peter Middendorf, University of Stuttgart, Heiko Meyer, Hewlett Packard Enterprise; Bradley McCredie, AMD; Kai Kölsch, Seedbox; Tom Schneider, TRUMPF; and Matthias Lederer, Porsche AG, joined us to mark this milestone. Their remarks highlighted the exciting opportunities that Hunter offers for state-of-the-art applications of simulation and artificial intelligence, and for accelerating scientific discovery and industrial competitiveness in Baden-Württemberg and across Germany.
