At the first Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC 2024), around 1,600 participants met in the Hanseatic city to forge new alliances for concrete progress in sustainability. Opened by German #Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the conference was also attended by nine other heads of state, 29 ministers and twelve heads of international organizations.   German Development Minister Svenja Schulze said, "This conference is a source of encouragement for international cooperation. In the midst of a difficult global situation, the Hamburg Sustainability Conference has breathed new life into a simple insight.   With more than 15 agreements, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been given an urgently needed new impetus. In a total of more than 60 events, participants from more than 100 countries not only discussed key global challenges, but also agreed on concrete steps to tackle them. Here are just three examples of HSC 2024 outcomes:   @#GreenShipping: With the "Hamburg Declaration on the Decarbonization of Global Shipping," more than a dozen companies agreed to collaborate on the development of sustainable shipping corridors, research and development, knowledge sharing, and investment financing. In addition to Germany also Brazil and Denmark are supporting the initiative but also mayor shipping companies like CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd AG or MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company or international ports like Port of Los Angeles, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Yokohama Port Corporation or Port of Hamburg.   #GreenAviation: The ten signatories of the "Hamburg Declaration on Green Aviation" also agreed to work together to develop "green aviation hubs" in the areas of research and development, knowledge sharing and financing. The signatories include Hamburg Airport, Deutsche Post und DHL AG and the South African company Sasol.   #GreenMobility: The Global Battery Alliance stands for the sustainable production of batteries along the entire supply chain and is currently working on setting a global sustainability standard. The HSC agreement that Germany and Serbia are joining the mission, and Zambia has also announced its accession, contributes to the establishment of sustainability criteria along the entire value chain of battery production, from raw material producers to OEMs.   The next HSC, which will take place on 2-3 June 2025 in Hamburg, is planned for an annual cycle.   Photo: Hamburg Sustainability Conference

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 Today, at our Hamburg stand at the Expo Real, we gathered for the HafenCityTalk to discuss the future of our city’s development. Under the theme “Strong Concepts – Strong Tools – Resilient Urban Development,” we explored how we can work together to drive the city’s progress. Franz-Josef Höing, Chief Planning Director in Hamburg, emphasized that Hamburg’s growth strategy also builds on existing structures: “We need to focus on the existing city as well. Especially along the 12 transit roads, which we have been addressing for the past five years, we can create new growth by developing additional housing.” Dr. Andreas Kleinau, CEO of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, highlighted the vision of an integrated city of the future: “It is essential that we have a shared vision of how the city should evolve – with a well-thought-out combination of living, working, housing, and incorporating science and research. We are building a city for the future.” Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of Hamburg Invest, underlined Hamburg’s forward-thinking approach: “At Hamburg Invest, we are marketing the world of tomorrow. The future of Hamburg will be sustainable and adaptable, and for this, we are creating places like the innovation parks in Altona and Bergedorf.” Kleinau further expanded on the role of Science City Hamburg and highlighted Campus West: “This puts Hamburg on the international map. Science and research are embedded in the very DNA of Hamburg.” Höing added that the Volkspark would play a central role in this concept, “akin to a Central Park that will shape the Science City.” Strittmatter emphasized the interconnectedness of housing and employment: “We need both a stable foundation and flexibility. When we talk about housing, we must also consider new jobs. Community and knowledge transfer – facilitated through people – are key elements.” Thanks to Dorothee Wetzler-Stöbe, who once again skilfully moderated the Talk with charm! Hamburg is showing that the future of urban development lies in collaboration and a shared commitment to building a more resilient, liveable city. #UrbanDevelopment  #HafenCity #tecHHub #InnovationsparkAltona #ScienceCityHamburg #FutureHamburg #ExpoReal24   photos: Stefan Groenveld

🌍 Did you know that nearly every second product in supermarkets contains palm oil, but its production causes severe environmental damage? What if there was a sustainable alternative? In our latest Future Hamburg Talk, I had the chance to listen to Maximilian Webers, CEO of the bio-tech startup COLIPI from Hamburg. They’re revolutionizing oil production—think of them as a brewery, but instead of beer, they’re brewing sustainable oils! This innovative approach has earned them the Future Hamburg Award this year, and they’ve also been selected for the prestigious GREEN SCIENCES INCUBATOR (GSI) program at L'Oréal research and innovation.🌱 Curious how this innovation could replace palm oil and help protect the planet? Watch the video to learn how Colipi is shaping the future of sustainable products! 🌱 Watch the whole video here: https://lnkd.in/evUjksWB #FutureHamburg  #Sustainability #Innovation #BioTech #ClimateAction #PalmOilAlternatives

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗚𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗵𝘂𝗯 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗹𝗮𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝘇 Quest One has officially opened its groundbreaking Gigahub in Hamburg, marking a major step toward the mass production of green hydrogen. Quest One CEO Robin v. Plettenberg celebrated the opening moment with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of Hamburg, Dr. Melanie Leonhard, Hamburg’s State Minister for Economic Affairs as well as Gunnar Kilian, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group, Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions s and Hans Dieter Pötsch, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Group. This facility aims to revolutionize hydrogen production with automated, industrial-scale production of PEM electrolysis stacks. These stacks are essential for electrolyzers that split water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable energy, increasing the availability of green hydrogen. 👍 We at Hamburg Invest are happy and proud to have contributed to the realization of this project by finding and securing the right location in Hamburg's Victoria Park. This milestone underscores our commitment to supporting innovative, future-oriented projects that strengthen Hamburg’s position as a leading hub for #greenhydrogen  technology. With the ability to produce over five gigawatts of electrolysis capacity each year, the Gigahub helps make Hamburg an important player in Europe’s hydrogen economy. Quest One is also focused on improving technology to make green hydrogen easier to access and more affordable, helping the world move away from fossil fuels. This is an important step that also makes Hamburg a growing centre for the hydrogen economy. 🌟 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗶𝗮 𝗪𝘂̈𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗞! 𝗔𝗸𝘁𝗶𝘃 𝗴𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗸𝗿𝗲𝗯𝘀 🌟 Let’s celebrate our Innovator of the Month Prof. Dr. Pia Wülfing ! In 2020, she founded PINK gegen Brustkrebs GmbH (against breast cancer), an inspiring initiative that offers a wide range of resources, including podcasts, webinars, and videos addressing key topics around breast cancer therapy and aftercare. Pia Wülfing is a specialist in gynaecology with over 20 years of clinical and research experience in breast cancer. Having led the Oncological Practice and Day Clinic at the Mammazentrum Hamburg, one of Germany's largest breast cancer centres, she witnessed firsthand the overwhelming uncertainty breast cancer patients face after their diagnosis. PINK! aims to empower patients through their journey. The key element is PINK! Coach, a prescription app designed to guide patients through treatment and recovery, focusing on nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being. It’s the only permanently approved digital health application for breast cancer whose effectiveness has been proven in clinical studies. PINK! Coach has already been prescribed around 11.500 times to breast cancer patients and supports them in managing side effects like fatigue and nausea with personalised goals and expert-backed content.  Pia Wülfing’s mission is clear: to fill the gap between diagnosis and treatment with trustworthy, actionable information, making sure no woman feels lost in the critical moments after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis – and to ultimately improve their quality of life.  Since June 2024, PINK! has been part of the digital therapeutics division of Hamburg-based Sidekick Health. This partnership will expand Sidekick's focus on women’s health and oncology. Pia Wülfing continues to lead the medical team, ensuring uninterrupted operations as the PINK! team fully integrates with Sidekick Health. We hope she’ll be able to help many more women in the future! 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴-𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗲 This week has been a key moment for the partnership between Hamburg and Singapore, with important developments happening in both regions: In Singapore, a Joint Workplan Agreement was signed between Hamburg Invest and Enterprise Singapore, while in Hamburg, a high-level Singapore delegation was hosted at WindEnergy Hamburg, strengthening the collaboration further. The agreement was signed today by Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of Hamburg Invest, and Tan Soon Kim, Deputy Managing Director of Enterprise Singapore, during an official business delegation trip led by Hamburg's First Mayor, Dr. Peter Tschentscher. Plans include annual business missions and networking meetings between the cities, as well as the exchange of best practices and co-innovation projects. Additionally, bi-annual meetings are planned to evaluate progress and discuss new initiatives. "Singapore and Hamburg are ideal partners for collaboration on many levels," said Dr. Rolf Strittmatter. "Both city-states boast significant port and trade infrastructures and have established themselves as leaders in innovation and sustainability. This agreement will further enhance our existing economic ties and create new opportunities for businesses, networks, and innovations." At the same time, we were honoured to welcome a delegation led by Chuan Teck Lee, Executive Chairman of Enterprise Singapore, to WindEnergy Hamburg. The delegation focused on positioning Singapore as a hub for offshore wind technology by leveraging its strong oil & gas and marine infrastructure. Both cities aim to drive the green transformation through offshore wind. A special “Thank You” goes to Enterprise Singapore, the Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI), and Taylor Wessing Germany for co-hosting the Singapore Evening in Hamburg, which was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strong bonds and shared ambitions of our two cities. The collaboration between Hamburg and Singapore is a clear example of how strategic partnerships can drive innovation for sustainable growth. A key supporter of this collaboration is Ralf Schmidt, who has been serving as an honorary Hamburg Ambassador in Singapore since 2015. Over the past few years, he has played a crucial role in strengthening the partnership between Hamburg and Singapore. Thank you for this, dear Ralf! #HamburgInvest #EnterpriseSingapore  #WindEnergyHamburg #GlobalPartnerships #GreenTransformation #HamburgAmbassador #FutureHamburg photos © Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg / Hamburg Invest / Enterprise Singapore
