#PORTpartners Congratulations to Stena Line for winning the Kiel Port Award 2024 for its commitment to combined transport and #sustainability Overlooking the fjord and Stena Line's ferry terminal, more than 150 guests gathered yesterday to celebrate the PORT OF KIEL (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG) at the 39th #Sprottenback. During the event, Jörn Grage, Managing Director of the forestry company SCA Logistics and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Port of Kiel, presented Stena Line's Mikko Juelich with the Port Award. In his role as Trade Director and Managing Director of Stena Line Germany, he has been committed to the key issues of combined transport and sustainability over the past three years and has intensified the good cooperation between Stena Line and the PORT OF KIEL (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG). Juelich's efforts have been particularly recognised in the development of the intermodal sector in Kiel. Stena Line has for many years been one of the port of Kiel's largest intermodal customers. Since the beginning of the year, Stena Line has also been operating a new, independently organised intermodal train between Kiel and Verona. Stena Line is sending a clear signal in favour of 'freight by rail' at a time when German rail infrastructure is in a state of disrepair and train services are unreliable. It is also an active contribution to greater sustainability in the transport sector. Combined transport can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 per cent compared to road transport alone. The Port of Hamburg is Germany's largest universal port with a global network. As a sign of the close and trustful cooperation, duisport has now joined Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. (HHM). This membership enables both ports to combine their expertise and extensive networks, thus creating synergies and acting together as a strong voice for the German economy. Port of Hamburg Marketing representative Germany West, Markus Heinen, welcomed the new member aboard! 🤝 Both ports see great potential for stronger cooperation, for example, in the areas of climate protection and modal shift to waterways and rail. #automatedPORT The HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) is a state-of-the-art example in container handling – efficient and highly automated. We recently again had the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at the highly automated HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder GmbH (#CTA), and we’re excited to share with you some insights on how efficiency meets innovation here! A sophisticated IT control system, known as Terminal Logistics and Control (TLS), enables precise coordination of all handling and storage processes, seamlessly integrating rail and road transport across the terminal. This software, developed and continuously refined by HHLA IT, controls crane and transport movements via wireless data communication. Automated Guided Vehicles (#AGV) autonomously manage container transport, while the TLS minimises empty runs and shortens transport routes, ensuring optimal resource utilisation and on-time delivery. ➡ 👷♀️ However, despite the advanced automation, the human element remains crucial: experienced staff in the control room ensure all processes run smoothly. It may sometimes seem as if the CTA is operated by an invisible hand, but it’s the people behind the scenes who keep everything running. #PORTvisit We were honoured to welcome the delegation from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMPB), led among others by the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, during their visit to Hamburg for the SMM Hamburg trade fair. Port of Hamburg Marketing together with Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), welcomed the delegation with an informative briefing where insights on current challenges and developments in both regions were exchanged. Key topics included the impact of global trade dynamics on port operations, sustainability initiatives, and the future of digitalisation in the maritime sector. Following the briefing, the delegation embarked on a port tour that showcased the capabilities and unique features of the Port of Hamburg. We would like to thank all participants who contributed to making this visit a success. #greenPORT 🚛🔌 E.ON together with Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) advances E-mobility in the Port of Hamburg: First Charging Station for Electric Trucks Now in Operation! The four new E.ON charging stations are located directly on the A7 at the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) site. With an impressive power output of 400 kilowatts per station, trucks can recharge enough energy during the legally mandated 45-minute driver rest break to cover around 300 kilometres. Each charging bay is 25 metres long and 3 metres wide, allowing articulated lorries to charge conveniently without needing to uncouple their trailers. Friedrich Stuhrmann, Chief Commercial Officer of the HPA, emphasises: “We are very pleased that E.ON has chosen to invest in the Port of Hamburg as a key partner. Hamburg is not only Germany’s gateway to the world and a hub for goods and freight traffic, but also a pioneer in climate protection. E.ON’s investments align perfectly with this strategy, and we look forward to working together to further decarbonise traffic in and around the port.” The best part: the infrastructure is future-ready. Exciting news for the #cruisePORT of Hamburg! 🚢 As of today, AIDA Cruises has officially opened its fully modernised Fleet Operations Center (FOC) in the HafenCity. Covering over 250 square meters, the FOC serves as the first point of contact and support center for 31 cruise ship, including those of AIDA and other European brands of the Carnival Corporation. By leveraging real-time data on speed, weather, and navigation, the FOC optimises fuel and energy consumption, ensuring safer and more sustainable operations. "Our Fleet Operations Centre is the only one of its kind in Germany. With our extensive investment in new hardware and state-of-the-art software, specially tailored to our maritime needs, we are setting new standards in the cruise industry. The FOC team is available to our captains and officers around the clock to provide nautical and technical support," says Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises.
