With our ME450 PEM electrolyzer, green hydrogen will soon be produced from 100% renewable energy, paving the way for sustainable transportation on the island.   The electrolyzer will produce 450 kg of highly pure green hydrogen per day, fueling public Hydrogen Refueling Stations (HRS) and enabling a cleaner future for vehicles across the island.   This project highlights the potential of green hydrogen to drive energy independence and transform isolated regions like the Canary Islands. As part of this initiative, we will supply three of our ME450 PEM electrolyzers as the centerpiece of the plant. These will produce up to 1,350 kilograms of green hydrogen per day from green electricity generated by Helen’s renewable energy source portfolio, playing a crucial role in decarbonizing the energy supply. With this pilot project, Helen Oy will not only increase the flexibility of the energy system, but also gain invaluable experience for large-scale hydrogen production. The 3H2 project uniquely combines four different sectors: electricity, heating, transportation, and hydrogen – an industry first and a significant step towards a climate-neutral future.     𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 Hydrogen is more and more described as the energy source of the future, so the classification and coding of the different types of hydrogen is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, a color theory has been developed for the naturally occurring colorless gas. These colors basically describe the processes by which hydrogen can be produced: 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Uses fossil fuels in its production and can be stored or distributed. This type is considered CO₂ neutral. 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗾𝘂𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Produced by the pyrolysis of methane. A high temperature reactor is a key component of this process. If the heat supply to the reactor is regenerative, it is CO₂-neutral. 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Also produced from fossil fuels. Most commonly produced by steam reforming. 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Produced by gasification of coal. This type of hydrogen has no positive impact on the environment.  𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Produced by electrolysis of water using nuclear energy. Pink hydrogen has some environmental risks. 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Naturally occurring hydrogen found in underground reservoirs without human intervention. 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻: Produced by the electrolysis of water. Instead of yellow hydrogen the electricity required for this comes entirely from renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics or wind power.
