Founded in 1994 with a team of four, it currently employs more than 800 people. An internationally active company with five international subsidiaries of its own in Milan, São Paulo, Atlanta and Palo Alto, Shanghai and Beijing, and Paris, it is one of Germany’s leading management consultancies.     Solid-state batteries (SSB) are gaining significant attention due to their long range, fast charging capabilities, high stability, and potential for lower costs. 🔋   Our Porsche Consulting battery experts participated in the CAR Battery Days event, organized by CAR Center Automotive Research and co-hosted by BASF, where they shared their insights on the future of battery technology during an engaging two-day event. The advantages of SSBs are attracting interest from automotive OEMs and various other industries. What opportunities and challenges do they bring for car manufacturers, cell makers, and the supply chain?   ➡️ Technology Potential: Solid-state batteries offer a promising solution for achieving high performance and stability.   ➡️ Industrialization Challenge: Before large-scale deployment, key industrialization challenges must be addressed to ensure performance and cost competitiveness. Approximately 60% of current cell production processes need to be adapted or replaced to meet new production requirements.   ➡️ Raw Materials Impact: Leading SSB technologies typically require significantly higher lithium content compared with today’s lithium-ion batteries (up to 70% more per kWh).     Smart Factory in a can. How Ardagh Metal Packaging is making global production more flexible. With 23 factories across three regions, Ardagh Metal Packaging embarked on a journey to transform its production facilities into the “plant of the future.” This transformation aims to produce cans with high variance and maximum efficiency. 📋 Challenge Ardagh Metal Packaging faced the challenge of balancing customization with mass production. To meet future customer demands efficiently, the company is bringing its production processes and technologies to the next level. The initial conditions at the various locations varied significantly, making a one-size-fits-all solution impractical. 🛠️ Implementation In collaboration with Porsche Consulting, Ardagh Metal Packaging developed a flexible action plan tailored to the regions of North America, South America, and Europe. This plan considered the different cultures and development stages of each factory. The approach involved identifying potential improvements and prioritizing use cases specific to each region. 🏆 Result The transformation led to diverse solutions, from automated guided vehicles to real-time data provision, tailored to the unique needs of each factory. This customization ensured that each site could progress towards becoming a “plant of the future” in its own way.     In the agricultural sector, designing a comprehensive operational roadmap and manufacturing footprint strategy is crucial for long-term success.   AGCO Corporation has taken a forward-looking approach by collaborating with Porsche Consulting to shape its global operational roadmap and manufacturing footprint strategy. For the period up until 2030, AGCO has developed more than 60 global footprint scenarios across three brands and over 70 products, covering 20 sites worldwide. The project involved a detailed assessment of manufacturing capacities, logistics, and geopolitical risks to evaluate the financial impact. As a result, a detailed investment roadmap was created, covering assembly, machinery, buildings, and tooling. Investment allocation was optimized, delivering product cost benefits with a payback period of less than five years. As winner in the "Startup" category, the jury selected WeSort.AI GmbH. The company uses AI to revolutionize waste sorting by accurately identifying and sorting materials. In the "Upcoming" category, dermanostic - Hautarzt per App won the competition. The digital dermatology service offering quick and easy skin treatment via a smartphone app. A special prize was awarded to Regina Ziegler, who successfully built up her family business.
