The River Culture Pavilion was completed in 2012 by Birdair's sister company, Taiyo Europe GmbH, spanning approximately 21,000 square feet. The bold curved form of the ARC is perched on a peninsula that juts into the river, surrounded by an awe-inspiring natural environment. The building is a strong focal point set against a stunning panoramic landscape. The architecture comprises a vessel-shaped form clad in silver fritted TensoSky® ETFE Film pillows that, through a play of transparency and geometry, create an ephemeral effect. King Fahd Stadium - Riyadh, KSA King Fahd Stadium, an iconic sporting arena in Saudi Arabia, has stood as a symbol of national pride since completion in 1987. Located in the capital city of Riyadh, it is one of the largest stadiums in the world and the largest in Saudi Arabia, boasting a seating capacity of over 64,000 spectators. What makes this architectural marvel even more remarkable is the giant flower-like design created by 500,000 square feet of a Birdair, Inc. PTFE-coated fiberglass roofing system, that was added to the stadium, transforming it into a modern and climate-controlled venue. Built by Birdair (and currently services by our Middle East sister company, Taiyo Middle East LLC), this innovative addition not only shields spectators from the scorching desert sun but also gives the stadium a striking aesthetic appeal. King Fahd Stadium has events and continues to be a vibrant center for sports and entertainment, uniting people in the spirit of competition and celebration under the comfort of the Birdair canopy. Stadium is closed on December 1st 2023 for renovation work to begin. The stadium will undergo an extensive renovation in preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup. ‘Saudi Projects’ stated that it will be a comprehensive development project with capacity increase and plush offerings. The renovation plans also include the addition of Green spaces, bicycle paths, a sports store, and a sports museum, among other facilities. Stunning 600,000 sq.ft. PTFE Tensile Membrane Roof system built by our sister company Taiyo Europe GmbH!

Sydney Football Stadium Tensile Membrane Roof - MakMax Australia In collaboration with John Holland Group, MakMax Australia completed the Sydney Football Stadium Roof in late 2022. This new stadium boasts a 26,000 square meter tensile membrane roof, which serves as a magnificent topping to the state-of-the-art facility. The main portion of the roof at Sydney Football Stadium features 48 large PTFE fabric panels. These panels, the largest being 14.5 meters wide and over 40 meters long, are secured to the steel roof trusses and support beams using more than 11 kilometers of high-strength, ultra-light aluminum tensioning hardware. Covering 21,708 square meters, this modern glass-fibre fabric shields spectators from the rain and provides shade during the game. The stadium’s inner roof ring uses 3,500 square meters of translucent ETFE panels. These 96 ultra-light ETFE polymer sections are strategically designed to allow sunlight to reach the grass, fostering natural growth, while still offering protection from the elements for fans in the lower seating tiers. These clear sections are held in place by over 1100 x 8mm stainless steel cables, totaling nearly 5 kilometers in length. Additionally, 900 square meters of vertical PTFE panels have been fitted at various junctions where the ETFE and PTFE sections intersect, enhancing the roof’s overall integration. The design is completed with more than 1600 square meters of cutting-edge glass reinforced polymer bullnose fascia panels along the roof’s outer edge. The Copa América 2024 kicks off tonight between Argentina and Canada under a Birdair roof - Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. Birdair was the selected design-build specialty contractor for the 135,000 sq.ft. 3-layer ETFE pillows on a the retractable roof system as well as the single layer facade, also known as the 'windows to the city' which opened in 2017 ahead of Falcons NFL season.
