With the loss of USAID as one of the world's largest donors, funding has become scarce and many grassroots NGOs are severely impacted. Our shelter is struggling to survive. Meet 12-year-old Angelly, one of the youth leaders who went through our program and is now championing gender equality in her community. She is also the protagonist in a new campaign video by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. 💫 This year we ran the second cohort of our innovative empowerment program "Raíces de Cambio - Roots of Change", a community-based leadership school for women & girls in Cúcuta, Colombia. 🦸🏻♀️ Since we first launched this new program just over a year ago, XOCO Unlimited and our grassroots partner organization MDYM have trained 40 girls as youth leaders, creating a youth support network to replicate knowledge and awareness of gender equality as well as strategies for the prevention of gender-based violence. The holistic training program provides education on human rights, especially the rights of women and girls, self-esteem, self-love and self-care, as well as GBVH prevention and healthy boundaries.
