👏 A big thank you to all the participants, speakers, and organisers of #Wingspan2024! Your presence contributed to the success of this inaugural edition! We were thrilled to welcome 320 in-person and online attendees from 32 countries 🌍 Here are some of the key takeaways from the insightful two-day conference👇 ➡ The LIFE Programme is a major driver for a #NatureSafe energy transition in Europe. It is supporting crucial projects that unite key stakeholders in making this vision a reality. ➡ Nature🌳 and energy ⚡️ legislation should be implemented in synergy in every Member State 📑 The EU has provided frameworks and guidelines for nature protection, restoration and speeding up the deployment of renewable energy. Now, it’s up to Member States to transpose these laws efficiently into their regulations so that renewable deployment and nature conservation can advance hand in hand 🤝 ➡ Risk mapping 🗺️ is essential in the planning phase of renewable projects. It helps identify areas suitable for development and some that should be left untouched. Following the mitigation hierarchy isn’t just environmentally sound—it can also be cost-effective in the long run. ➡ Data 📊 We need robust data across all levels of collaboration. With the EU now identifying acceleration areas for new energy infrastructure 👷♀️⚒️💨☀️⚡️, data-driven decisions are more critical than ever. 💡 1st panel of #Wingspan2024: What key strategies exist to ensure bird-friendly infrastructure? What challenges & opportunities do we face? “The LIFE Programme supports us over the years to mitigate impact and protect endangered species, but we are only scratching the surface. The only way out is to scale up the new norm of best practice through regulatory legislative change. We need to go the way of Spain which passed laws to oblige countries to internalise change into their processes.” says Jose Tavares, Vulture Conservation Foundation “Risk mapping is important to identify the problem. In France we are working with researchers for the mapping of the white stork. More mapping will be done in the context of the SafeLines4Birds project, as well as research into the effectiveness of wire markers to prevent collision.” says Lisa Garnier-Durand, RTE Follow online here: https://lnkd.in/emhQA6tN LPO France LIFE Programme SafeLines4Birds Renewables Grid Initiative
