Yesterday marked Denmark’s Overshoot Day. If everyone lived as we do in Denmark, by March 19th, 2025, we would have used up ALL of the planet’s available ecological resources for the year. On top of that, Denmark is only the 11th country to already have an overshoot day this year – making Denmark’s ecological footprint amongst the highest globally. The bottom line is that we’re using the planet far faster than it can regenerate. If this isn’t a serious wake-up call that we need to do whatever we can to reduce pressure on ecological resources, such as sea areas, farmland, and forests… 🚨 we don’t know what is. Making the most of existing resources instead of consuming new ones is essential. When it comes to food, that means wasting nothing and upcycling more. It means consuming less and replacing foods that are ecologically demanding with foods that are resourceful and restorative – for people and the planet. At Agrain, the solution couldn’t be clearer. Swap 1kg of regular flour with Agrain spent grain flour and you’ve saved 2m2 of land use. If everyone in Denmark 🇩🇰 used 1kg of upcycled flour every month for one year? We could save nearly as much land as the area of Copenhagen. So let’s stop borrowing resources from the future. Italian tradition meets circular innovation! Personally, I always opt to buy fiber-rich foods - not only for my own health but especially for my kids. When it comes to pasta, I don't particularly enjoy whole-grain pasta, but I still buy it due to the lack of better alternatives. My colleague Marta may have changed that for good! She, together with Mulino Terrevive from Rossano Veneto, Italy, has created an amazing dried pasta. You still get the source of protein (12,6%) and high fiber (6,5%), but with a softer texture and better ability to hold sauces. This is more than just "whole-grain" pasta - it's innovation in the form of Italian craftsmanship using organic and sustainable ingredients. #Pasta #SpentGrains Agrain by Circular Food Technology

HIP 2025 Highlights Sustainability & Food Waste Law - Agrain x MasterD Featured! Last week, HIP - Horeca Professional Expo International took place in Spain, spotlighting sustainability and Spain’s upcoming food waste prevention law. A key takeaway? The industry is shifting, and education plays a vital role in driving change. Food waste is just the tip of the iceberg. 🗻 When we waste food, we waste EVERYTHING that went into producing it: We waste the land, water, and energy it took to grow, harvest and transport. We waste the hard work and love poured into it. Yet still one-third of all food produced is wasted, with almost half of that being lost between harvest and retail. 🌾 On top of that, agriculture is responsible for 80% of global deforestation, 70% of terrestrial biodiversity loss, and consumes 70% of the world’s freshwater. Those are some BIG losses when we realise we are throwing one-third of that away. 🤯 That’s why, at Agrain, we couldn't be more sure that the future of food is upcycled. Upcycling sidestreams that are traditionally considered ‘loss’ or ‘waste’ into new foods means conserving resources that we can't afford to lose. Plus, it means creating delicious and nutritious foods without the need for more resources like land and water. Everything we need is already there – so why not use it?
