What a start to a great collaboration in South Africa;
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Mulilo Energy and EDF Renewables (South Africa) have been awarded preferred bidder status for three battery energy storage projects in South Africa. The total cost of the projects is estimated to be more than ZAR 7bn, and construction is expected to commence in mid-2024. Robert Helms, partner at CIP commented: “Securing preferred bidder status for the majority of the procured capacity in South Africa’s first public battery storage tender together with EDF marks a significant step in the accelerated growth journey of Mulilo. We commend the South African government’s strong commitment to the rapid buildout of battery energy storage, a key focus technology for Mulilo.” “This achievement is an important and significant milestone for Mulilo. I am very proud of the entire team that is currently outperforming our business plans and look forward, together with our partners, to the successful execution of these projects”, said Jan Oberholzer, Chairman of the Board in Mulilo. Mulilo was founded in 2008 and holds an ~8% market share in the South African renewable sector and has to date developed and successfully delivered more than 440 MW of operating wind and solar projects. In addition, the company holds an extensive pipeline exceeding 25GW across onshore wind, solar PV, and storage. CIP through its Growth Markets Fund I (CI GMF I) acquired the majority share of Mulilo in March 2023. It was our first ever investment in South Africa. One of the most important ways we can accelerate the global energy transition is to develop and train future renewable energy leaders and specialists. This month we co-hosted a networking event for young talent in Copenhagen to allow them to get to know our industry better and learn from senior leaders at Copenhagen Offshore Partners, Vestas, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Copenhagen Infrastructure Service Co. 130 Copenhagen-based Student Assistants from all 4 companies spent and evening with COP Co-CEO Lars Thaaning Pedersen, Vestas’ CEO Henrik Andersen, CIP's Senior Partner Christina Grumstrup Soerensen, and CISC’s CEO Flemming Lyngholm, to hear their thoughts on the future of the green renewables industry, receive and interact on career advice in support of their continuing growth and development. Following an interactive Q&A sessions, students enjoyed a networking dinner and were able to connect across companies. Thanks to everyone who helped organize the event. It is moments like these that inspire and open the door to opportunities that can lead to a rewarding and purposeful career in the green renewables industry. If you would like to participate next year, keep an eye out on our career site for Analyst positions! #Career #networking #CISC
