If you go to the hospital 🚑 you will not only meet doctors and other healthcare professionals, but also high-tech equipment. Professor Ann Blandford from UCL (University College London) is one of the researchers who has significantly contributed to developing effective health technologies and bridging the gap between computer science and healthcare 🖥️ She has collaborated for many years with the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg Universitet, and her her great efforts now lead to her being awarded an honorary doctorate at Aalborg University. The Technical Faculty of IT and Design at AAU has nominated Ann Blandford for the honorary doctorate. Niels van Berkel, Professor at the Department of Computer Science, AAU, states: "Professor Ann Blandford’s academic leadership and pioneering vision in Human-Computer Interaction have positively influenced technological development and led to a series of impressive contributions to digital health. Her methodological contributions to qualitative data analysis are now deservedly included in numerous textbooks worldwide, and her efforts to connect academics and practitioners across different disciplines are a huge inspiration for us at AAU." The appointment of Professor Ann Blandford as an honorary doctor at AAU will take place at the university's annual celebration on 4 April 2025. Ann Blandford gives a public guest lecture at Aalborg University the same day, 4 April 2025, 09.30-10.30 at Cassiopeia auditorium, Selma Lagerløfs Vej 300, Aalborg (Denmark) Read more👉 https://lnkd.in/eVnqhBsN

Invitation to PhD defense by Alexander Leguizamon-Robayo Efficient Analysis of Biochemical and Cyber-Physical Systems via Model Reduction. Alexander explains: “My research focuses on simplifying complex models so that people can use them to get relevant insights. We are surrounded by complex systems that require lots of computational power. Reduced models can be used without such resources and still give important insights.” If he could give any advice for new PhD students, it would be to use the time by learning from colleagues and traveling as much as possible to learn from others. Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University genopslog dette

Driving Transformation Through a Scientific Mindset | Professor and Researcher | Speaker | Coach | Industry Advisor
AI isn’t just about algorithms—it’s about people, culture, and values. Yet too often, AI is built with a one-size-fits-all mindset, ignoring how different communities engage with knowledge, governance, and decision-making. That’s why I’ve launched a research initiative exploring how AI can be ethically integrated into Māori communities—aligning with: 🔹 Whakapapa (genealogy) 🔹 Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) 🔹 Rangatiratanga (self-determination) This project, funded by the Carlsberg Foundation, challenges the idea that AI is a neutral tool. It isn’t. AI is shaped by human choices, biases, and cultural perspectives—and must be designed accordingly. Over the next few months, I’ll be working with Māori leaders, conducting ethnographic research, and developing a culturally grounded AI framework that prioritizes: ✅ Trust ✅ Ethical governance ✅ Data sovereignty A massive thank you to: 🙏 The Carlsberg Foundation for supporting this work 🙏 Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University for enabling my sabbatical 💡 How should AI adapt to different cultural contexts? Let’s discuss in the comments! 👇
