🌟 Reflecting on Training on Co-Creation in Zanzibar🌟
I’m thrilled to share the highlights of my recent trip to Zanzibar, where I had the opportunity to train PhD researchers and lecturers at The State University of Zanzibar on the intricacies of #cocreation. This workshop was not just a training session, but a deep dive into the full spectrum of planning a scientifically sound co-creation project.
The participants plan to use co-creation in their projects addressing malaria and environmental regeneration in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
✍ Focus on Methodology: Over three days, I guided participants through the complete co-creation process, drawing on my PhD research, my work w/ Health Promotion and Intervention Research, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences - University of Oxford, Waag Futurelab, World Health Organization, and publications by my colleagues at Health CASCADE and other experts like Calum Leask and Carmen Vargas.
✊ Intensive Learning: Mastering co-creation is akin to an apprenticeship, blending academic knowledge with vital soft skills like facilitation. The hands-on, face-to-face interaction is crucial for deepening these skills.
🤸♀️ Flexibility in Practice: Co-creation often presents unexpected challenges, so preparing work that is flexible and adaptable is key to navigating these complexities effectively.
💟 Warm Welcome: I was deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality of my students, collaborators, and the people of Zanzibar. Their welcoming spirit, reflected in the local Swahili saying "hakuna matata" (no worries), made the experience truly memorable.
🔎 Looking Ahead: This is the beginning of their co-creation process, so I’m eager to see the innovative solutions my students will co-create! Keep an eye on the research of these stellar professionals: Otis Sloan Wood, Rabia Esmail, Eliza Lupenza, Idrissa Hamad, Gloria Caesar, Masoud Abdulla, Omar Haji, Kassim H. Ame, and Sabrina Abdi.
🙏A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this training possible, and to my dedicated students: Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen Glasgow Caledonian University Karin Schiøler Fatma Saleh, Hanne Ingvorsen, Juliette Éléonore Nicolaï, Health CASCADE, and funding from the School of Global Health MBDFree Project!
