I shared my insights on improving health security investments in Nigeria at the 2025 National Strategic Health Summit, held recently in Abuja. While increased allocation for epidemics and preparedness is critical, mainstreaming effectiveness and efficiency in the use of available funding through the NAPHS is also key! Watch the video to learn more about Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL)’s advocacy strategies in Lagos and Kano States, supported by Global Health Advocacy Incubator and how these efforts are crucial for a resilient Nigerian health system ¹. #HealthSecurity #Nigeria #LISDEL #GHAI

  • Our immunization budget advocacy support to Cameroon, in partnership with Service d'Appui aux Initiatives Locales de Développement (SAILD), is now in full gear. A meeting last week between GHAI’s immunization country lead for Cameroon—Harmelle ENAME, SAILD officials and Cameroonian Member of Parliament Hon. Ngo Issi Rolande has led to a commitment to establish a parliamentary working group dedicated to vaccine funding. This group, comprising seven Members of Parliament and three senators, aims to prioritize vaccine issues in budget discussions, marking a crucial step forward for the "Promoting Vaccine Sovereignty in Cameroon" initiative launched by SAILD and GHAI in December 2024. The meeting emphasized the importance of sustainable vaccine funding and budget advocacy to mobilize domestic resources for vaccination. Hon. Ngo Issi expressed her commitment to supporting the initiative, highlighting the need for a sustainable approach to ensure vaccine access for all. The creation of this working group is seen as a great kickstart to the immunization budget advocacy project, which began last December with a study on immunization financing gaps in Cameroon. The study will be launched soon. #VaccinesSaveLives #Cameroon #Immunization

  • A birth certificate acts as a life-long passport for the recognition of rights and protections, enabling a person to ‘exist’ in society. Because of this, States have signed up to international treaty obligations to ensure that all children have their births registered immediately after birth. In addition, registration of births and deaths and the causes of deaths are critical to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development agenda.   Globally, an estimated 230 million children under the age of five are unregistered, denied their fundamental right to a legal identity. This staggering statistic highlights the urgent need for governments to uphold their international obligations on birth and death registration, as detailed in our #DataForHealth team’s new briefing paper.    Take a look at States’ international treaty obligations on civil registration and the Sustainable Development Goals that rely on functioning civil registration systems: https://lnkd.in/e8FYttpk
