  • We support | Mobile clinics in Ukraine With the conflict in Ukraine still ongoing, the healthcare system has been destroyed and even small untreated injuries and infections can cause severe problems. In December 2023, we donated USD 42,500 to Køge Nord Rotary Klub in support of a project delivering mobile emergency clinics to Ukraine in an effort to provide immediate and essential medical care to the Ukrainian population. The donation will cover the setting up of one mobile emergency clinic. 🔹 It is constructed with reinforcements so that it can be used in conflict areas. 🔹 A 2-sided metal and thermal insulation makes it possible to use both during summer and winter. 🔹 With it's own generator and water cleaning system, it can operate 24/7. 🔹 The mobile clinic is donated to the Ministry of Health, which operates clinics in areas where medical care isn't available at the moment. Even when the conflict ends, there will be a big need for these clinics, as it will take a long time to rebuild hospitals and the healthcare system in the region. "The project aims to provide immediate medical care and support to vulnerable populations, and it represents a meaningful endeavor to address pressing societal challenges and contribute to the betterment of affected communities in Ukraine," explains Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director of the Ramboll Foundation. #sustainabledevelopment #purposedrivenbusiness #humanitarianaid #ownershipwithapurpose

Empowering Flood-Affected Communities: Solar and Bore Water Pumps in Pakistan 💧   In the aftermath of the 2022 Pakistan floods, more than 780,000 homes were destroyed. To bolster vulnerable communities, this project, run by Charity For Life, aims to install water facilities, harnessing solar technology to fuel ten state-of-the-art water projects and 30 communal hand pumps. These solar-powered water systems and hand pumps will serve as communal facilities, ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water.   Additionally, the project aims to facilitate access to water for hygiene purposes, as well as for small livestock, such as goats, and for kitchen gardening activities aimed at growing vegetables to meet nutritional requirements.   "Through a holistic approach encompassing various aspects of water usage and agricultural practices, we seek to address the multifaceted needs of marginalized rural populations, ultimately leading to sustainable development and improved livelihoods", says Saqib Tasneem of Charity For Life.   The project aims to improve the accessibility of marginalized communities to essential social services by providing access to clean water, directly benefiting 270 households, comprising over 1,890 individuals, including women and children.   "This project addresses a fundamental human need while aligning closely with the purposes of the Ramboll Foundation, and we look forward to following the development of the many great initiatives locally," says Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director of the Ramboll Foundation.   The project is supported with DKK 350,000. #sustainabledevelopment #humanitarianaid #ownershipwithapurpose

We support | Career mentoring and STEM outreach activities 🔬   With the purpose of encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to consider careers in our industry by contributing to #STEM and #sustainability outreach activities and career mentoring, one of the 12 initiatives of the Flourish programme, Ramboll and the Ramboll Foundation's joint social impact programme, supports IntoUniversity in the UK and their learning centres across some of the most socio-economically disadvantaged areas in London.   Through #Flourish, volunteers from Ramboll support students through fast-paced business simulations, engaging career workshops, and insights into a professional environment, helping students to develop their aspirations and key soft skills such as confidence, teamwork, and communication.   The Ramboll and IntoUniversity collaboration centres around three main activities: Business in FOCUS workshops, the Careers in FOCUS programme, and a corporate mentoring programme. Through the main activities, Ramboll volunteers provide STEM and sustainability related advice and expertise.    "The Flourish programme is adding significant value to IntoUniversity's programmes. By volunteering with IntoUniversity, Ramboll staff have directly transformed the lives of hundreds of the young people we support," says Sharif Chowdhury, Corporate Partnerships Manager, IntoUniversity. #sustainabledevelopment #ownershipwithapurpose

  • We Support | The Danish Youth Association of Science (UNF) The UNF, a Danish science NGO, has during the school summer break hosted a number of week-long science camps offering older primary school student and younger high school students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of natural sciences. The students get to meet other curious like-minded youth through unique learning experiences. The science camps are not only educationally enriching, but also helps students prepare for their future studies and engage socially with each other. “The Ramboll Foundation is happy to be able to support educational activities such as these science camps, which inspire and motivate young students in the STEM topics through creative and collaborative learning environments,” says Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director of the Ramboll Foundation. At the science camps, the students explore the worlds of mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer game design as well as artificial intelligence. A new series of health science camps offers students the opportunity to learn about anatomy, physiology, and histology. “Thanks to the donation from the Ramboll Foundation, interested kids from all financial backgrounds and from across Denmark are able to participate in our camps,” says Michael Thorup Nielsen, UNF. The initiative is funded by the Ramboll Foundation with DKK 80,000. #ownershipwithapurpose #purposedrivenbusiness #sustainabledevelopment

  • Ramboll operates based on a strong heritage of values and ideals, which include decency and responsibility, excellence and insights, active membership of society, and most importantly, employee engagement and empowerment. We are proud to promote Ramboll’s legacy and company culture through supporting projects and initiatives, which foster a sense of purpose, inspiration, and commitment among the employees. Our joint social impact programme, Flourish, does just that. "When the Ramboll Foundation decided to create Flourish in collaboration with Ramboll, we knew that the programme had great potential to engage Ramboll employees while making real impact. But to actually witness the outcomes we together are creating for underserved groups and vulnerable societies has been extraordinary, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for Flourish," says Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director of the Ramboll Foundation. Congratulations with the first successful year of Flourish! #socialimpact #ownershipwithapurpose #sustainabledevelopment

Celebrating one year of Flourish 🎉 🌍 At Ramboll, we have a strong tradition for charitable and voluntary work, taking our commitment to society beyond our projects. To make our pledge even stronger and unify our approach to giving back to society, we launched our social impact programme, Flourish, back in April 2023. Run in partnership with the Rambøll Fonden / Ramboll Foundation, Flourish invites employees across Ramboll to use their skills and expertise to support underserved groups and communities. Through the programme, we have established 12 initiatives and partnerships across India, US, and UK just in the last year, creating unique volunteering opportunities all over the world for our employees. Take a look at some more achievements from the programme 👇 #Volunteering #Sustainability #SocialImpact

  • The Ramboll Foundation visits Ramboll Americas 🌎 Last week, the Ramboll Foundation travelled to the US, visiting local management, employees, and partners of the Ramboll Americas region. During two office engagement days and townhalls in San Francisco (Oakland) and Washington DC (Arlington) respectively, the Board of Trustees got to meet and interact with leaders and employees on important topics such as equality, diversity, and inclusion, key projects and clients, local strategy and growth initiatives, as well as the importance of the foundation ownership model in a US context. “Getting to know the Ramboll geographies and understanding what is important to local management and employees is very essential to the Ramboll Foundation, and I am happy that we got to meet so many passionate, kind, and inspirational Ramboll folks on our trip,” says Chair of the Board, Robert Arpe. On Thursday, the local townhall was broadcasted to more than 2000 employees across the Americas region, and included a panel discussion between Cheryl Ginyard-Jones, MD of Ramboll Americas, Claus Valentin Hemmingsen, Chair of the Ramboll Group A/S Board, Robert Arpe, Chair of the Ramboll Foundation, Neel Strøbæk, Deputy Chair of the Ramboll Foundation, and Søren Staugaard Nielsen, MD of the Ramboll Foundation. The townhall was followed by a fruitful discussion and Q&A with great contribution and engagement across the panel and participants, as well an informal social hour. The trip also offered an opportunity for the Foundation to meet up with local partners and business connections such as Patagonia and the Nordic Center at UC Berkeley. At a dinner activity on Wednesday night in Washington DC, the Board of Trustees also met with the Danish Ambassador to the US, Jesper Møller Sørensen. “When we say that we want to be the best owner of Ramboll, we mean it, and meeting Ramboll employees in person on annual trips like this only reinforces this important mission and makes us very proud to see the strong sense of purpose, excellence, and empowerment across the Ramboll geographies. The Americas region is in a unique position of growth at the moment, and we are very excited to follow their journey,” says Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director of the Ramboll Foundation. #ownershipwithapurpose #purposedrivenbusiness #foundationownership

  • The Ramboll Foundation and UC Berkeley join forces 🤝 In a new long-term collaboration, the Ramboll Foundation teams up with The Nordic Center at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Center for Responsible Business at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business to explore global research opportunities focusing on the unique ownership model of enterprise foundations. “Through this new collaboration, we are able to elevate the discussion of enterprise foundation ownership in the Nordic tradition with a partner who shares our ambitions and can bring forward new ideas as well as unique pathways to explore more fully what being deeply rooted in the Nordic tradition can mean on the global stage,” says Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director, The Ramboll Foundation. The unique ownership of an enterprise foundation presents as interesting subject matter for cases related to a broader responsible business context, including the opportunities and challenges of developing a for-profit company with dominant non-profit purposes. Examining such issues in a US setting is particularly relevant considering the recent moves by US entities to mimic the enterprise foundation model, which has drawn greater attention to the structure globally. We support | Bridges to Prosperity Since 2017, the Ramboll Foundation has supported a total of 7 projects (1 in Panama and 6 in Rwanda) with Bridges to Prosperity (B2P). In October 2023, we donated USD 95,600, and in that connection Ramboll employees have volunteered to travel to Rwanda to build a suspension bridge together with B2P and people from the local communities. B2P's vision is to end poverty caused by rural isolation. The suspension bridges create consistent access to critical economic, health, and education opportunities, and a solution for alleviating poverty in low-income nations. Just recently, the 7th bridge in Rwanda was completed. "The Rurumanza bridge, located in the Ruhango district of the southern province of Rwanda, will be directly serving the communities of Kizibere, Gishari, and Cyanza, counting a total of 3,012 community members", says Nicola Turrini, PMP of B2P. Matt Hourigan, Senior Bridge Engineer, is one of Ramboll's volunteers on the project. "I am passionate about applying my engineering knowledge and skills to help rural and remote communities’ access necessary healthcare, education and safe resources as a vehicle to reduce poverty. I am acutely aware of how the access to education and health positively impacts whole communities, especially young girls in remote and rural communities, and makes in-roads to reduce poverty," says Matt Hourigan. #sustainabledevelopment #purposedrivenbusiness #ownershipwithapurpose

  • Each year in June, we invite Ramboll employees to apply for membership of our global advisory forum 💡 The forum consists of 30+ non-executive employees across Ramboll's markets and geographies, who gets together twice a year, sharing local insights and perspectives with the Board of Trustees. The purpose of the Ramboll Foundation is to be the best owner of Ramboll and the Ramboll employees are the most important stakeholders for the Foundation. As Ramboll has grown and become a global company, increased dialogue and exchanges in insights are needed to ensure the connection between the Foundation and all Ramboll employees, and vice versa. "Engaging with the Foundation Advisory Forum is really important to the Foundation, as we want to support Ramboll and the employees through our active ownership. To do that, we need a forum to discuss and gain insights directly from the employees. The Foundation Advisory Forum gives us valuable input on how our values and Ramboll's legacy can serve as inspiration to the diverse employee population across Ramboll," says Søren Staugaard Nielsen, Managing Director of the Ramboll Foundation. Check out one of our members below, Kevin Smith, PE, ENV SP, who explains why he applied to be a member of the Foundation Advisory Forum. #purposedrivenbusiness #ownershipwithapurpose #employeeengagement #diversityandinclusion
