In a world where C-section rates are climbing - sometimes even exceeding 80% in some regions - many women are being subjected to unnecessary medical interventions. This not only escalates risks but also raises healthcare costs. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that midwives, trained to the highest global standards, could meet up to 90% of essential health needs across sexual, reproductive, and maternal care. Midwifery care reduces C-sections by 52%, improves outcomes for both mothers and babies, and enhances overall satisfaction. Countries like Uganda are already showing impressive results with midwifery-led models of care. With evidence backing this approach, it’s time to integrate midwifery into the education and health systems worldwide. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide, yet their integration into Universal Health Coverage (UHC) frameworks remains critically deprioritized. With 85% of premature deaths due to NCDs happening in LMICs, this oversight threatens health systems, equity, and the very foundation of UHC. Our latest op-ed dives deep into how sustainable financing and cross-sector partnerships are revolutionizing access to NCD care. Initiatives like the Financing Accelerator Network (FAN) are empowering governments with innovative funding models and technical support to meet the challenges head-on. As the world prepares for the 2025 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, this is the time to push for transformative action. 🔗 Explore the full op-ed by Herb Riband from Access Accelerated to learn how multisectoral collaboration can advance both NCD outcomes and UHC goals: https://lnkd.in/geWyarMN

“The cost of inaction is far too high - for individuals, for nations, and for the world.” In Africa, climate change isn’t just an environmental challenge; it’s a public health emergency. 50% of public health emergencies in Africa in the last two decades were climate-related and diseases like malaria are spreading to new regions as temperatures rise, while health budgets struggle to keep up. Economic losses from health impacts could reach $11-20 trillion by 2050 in low- and middle-income countries. In his latest piece, Dr. Githinji Gitahi Group CEO of AMREF Health Africa, outlines how Africa can reimagine health systems to withstand climate shocks, protect vulnerable communities, and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage. 💡 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eYAkSeNa #UniversalHealthCoverage #ClimateAction #GlobalHealth

"We had to borrow money from friends and family just to cover the diagnostic tests." For Gita Devi, an agricultural laborer in Uttar Pradesh, India's Health Insurance Scheme, Ayushman Bharat, was supposed to provide financial relief. While her surgery was covered, the high out-of-pocket costs for tests and medicines left her family struggling. This is not an isolated case. According to recent reports: -> 62% of health spending in India is still out-of-pocket, often leading to financial distress. -> Over 60% of beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat face issues related to service denial, delayed approvals, or hidden costs. -> Diagnostic tests, outpatient care, and medicines - accounting for the bulk of healthcare expenses - are often excluded from coverage. Our latest piece by Jyotsna Singh uncovers how families like Gita’s are still vulnerable to financial ruin despite the scheme’s ambitions. 🔗 Explore the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eZypGAJz #UniversalHealthCoverage #HealthEquity #IndiaPolicy #AyushmanBharat #HealthInsuranceScheme

Imagine managing multiple chronic conditions, traveling more than 2 hours for specialist care, and juggling stacks of paper medical records. This was the reality for millions of Vietnamese, like Ha Vu, until now. Vietnam’s healthcare system is embracing digitisation, with electronic health records revolutionizing patient care. In hospitals like Bach Mai, this means reduced errors, faster diagnoses, and significant cost savings (e.g., $2M annually by cutting medical film use). 🔑 Key stats: -> 93% of the population now has health insurance, a leap from 46% in 2008. -> By 2025, 40M users are expected on digital health platforms like VNeID. But challenges remain, especially in rural areas. The transition requires more than just tech, it needs trained professionals and a culture prioritizing privacy. Vietnam’s journey to UHC offers lessons for the global healthcare community. 📖 Read the full story here by Lam Nguyen: https://lnkd.in/eBvPFdJu #HealthInnovation #DigitalTransformation #UniversalHealthCoverage
