Renewables soar but fossils still reign. The International Energy Agency (IEA) annual flagship report, World Energy Outlook 2024, has now been published. It highlights the growing tension between the rapid expansion of renewables and the enduring dominance of fossil fuels. Electricity consumption is now growing faster than the pace of green energy replacing fossil-fuelled generation such as coal-fired power plants. However, this is unlikely to continue. Countdown to COP29: Optimising food and agriculture practices 🌾 In less than a month, the Danish delegation will travel to Baku, Azerbaijan to push the needle for public-private climate action at this year's COP29. Ahead of this, we will shed light on the seven sectors, that Denmark will focus on at COP29. Denmark travels to COP29 Azerbaijan with a clear agenda to optimise the use of resources within the food and agriculture sector. The Danish food industry has set ambitious climate goals targeting climate neutrality by 2050. This was emphasized earlier this year when with the announcement of the world-first climate tax on agriculture following a historic green tripartite agreement. Learn more in the article below about the Danish ambitions and meet the agrifood partner of the pavilion Food Nation Denmark 👇 https://lnkd.in/djJG49e2 The Denmark Pavilion is organised by: Klima-, Energi- og Forsyningsministeriet | Udenrigsministeriet / The Trade Council | DI - Dansk Industri | State of Green Denmark #DKCOP29 #COP29 #ClimateAction #PublicPrivateClimateAction

Pyrolysis, which transforms biomass into biochar, has the potential to significantly reduce emissions by locking in carbon. This technology could be key to reducing carbon emissions in the agriculture sector. The Danish government have unveiled the first concrete implementation of the green tripartite agreement made earlier this year, focusing on pyrolysis technology in agriculture. With a €1.35 million fund set to incentivise pyrolysis projects, the work to remove barriers and scale up the technology begins. A key element of the plan is conducting environmental impact assessments to ensure pyrolysis is rolled out responsibly and at scale, with a clear regulatory framework in place by 2026. The ambition is to cut 300,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2030 — equivalent to the emissions of 116,000 cars annually. Finding solutions to the Energy Trilemma 🤝 How do you create an energy supply that is green, affordable and secure at the same time? One solution is to future-proof the electricity grid through the expansion of interconnectors. In our latest episode of Sound of Green, we interview Michael C. Hjorth, Chief Commercial Officer at NKT, Kristoffer Böttzauw, Director of the Energistyrelsen and Rebecca Sedler, Managing Director of Interconnectors at the UK energy company National Grid. Listen as we explore the potential of increased grid and market interconnectivity through the case of Viking Link—the world’s longest power cable connecting the UK and Denmark. State of Green Denmark genopslog dette
🌍 Ready, Set, Go, Baku! 🌍 Today, DI - Dansk Industri, State of Green Denmark, Udenrigsministeriet and Klima-, Energi- og Forsyningsministeriet hosted the final #COP29 departure briefing, gathering both ministries, NGO’s, green organisations and private companies before heading to Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11-22. A heartfelt thank you to the speakers for providing their expectations for COP29: Anne Højer Simonsen, Ole Toft, Josefine Duer, Emilie Mariendal, Christian Føhrby, Finn M., Magnus Højberg Mernild. After #ClimateWeekNYC, a key message remains: No effective global climate action can take place without climate finance. Therefore, COP29 will be crucial, as the world's nations must agree on a new global goal for climate finance for developing countries. The Danish delegation is aiming for substantial, real progress on the climate agenda on a global scale and we will do our very best to achieve this. 💰🌱 Across both the public and private sectors, the desire for Denmark to remain a green frontrunner is strong. Hoping to inspire others, we are pleased to present our suggestion to spark dialogue and partnerships: Climate Neutrality Denmark 2045. Danish district heating goes green through electrification 🔌 Denmark's district heating companies have electrified their systems, with a threefold increase in the capacity of heat pumps and boilers over the past five years. This is shown in a recent report by the Danish District Heating Association (Dansk Fjernvarme). Electrifying heating systems enable the reduction of carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and enhance the security of supply by reducing dependence on volatile fossil fuel markets. It also allows for greater integration of renewable energy, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient energy system. In total, Danish district heating companies have invested 2,218 MW in electrified heat production, equivalent to the annual energy use of approximately 190,000 households.
