  • Kicking off 2025 in a royal manner 👑 Yesterday, we had the honour of hosting State of Green's first-ever New Year’s reception, with His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark – our esteemed patron since 2008 - as the guest of honour. Held in the House of Green showroom — officially inaugurated by His Majesty back in 2019 — the reception brought together 40 key stakeholders, including our founders, commercial partners and representatives from across ministries and industries, to reflect on the achievements of 2024 and explore the opportunities ahead. 2025 promises to be yet another important year for Denmark’s green agenda, with major events such as the WindEurope conference in Copenhagen, Denmark’s upcoming EU Presidency and the landmark COP30 in Brazil this November. We look forward to continuing the public-private collaboration to drive the global green transition forward in the upcoming year. Photo: Ulrik Jantzen / Büro Jantzen

  • Today is world water day 💧 Melting glaciers are a stark reminder of our changing climate — driving sea level rise, floods and extreme weather. Preserving them calls for action on many fronts, including smarter ways of managing water. In Denmark, climate adaptation efforts are rethinking how cities manage rain and runoff — helping to ease pressure on global water systems and build more resilient urban environments. To mark World Water Day, we tested our team’s knowledge of Danish water solutions. Can you answer this question?

  • Creating climate impact with nature's own toolbox. By combining biology with technology, biosolutions have the potential to cut emissions, increase resource efficiency, and foster circular economy models. As a well-established research-based industry with a strong international engagement, the Danish biosolutions cluster provides a breadth of ways to initiate and accelerate the green transition across industries Next week, we are publishing a new publication, gathering cases and solutions across innovative enablers, circular industrial solutions and resource-efficient food production. • A major step forward for Power-to-X in Denmark European Energy has successfully produced the first e-methanol at its Kassø facility, demonstrating how green hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ can be combined to create fossil-free fuels for hard-to-electrify industries. As production ramps up, the facility will soon deliver 42,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually - powered by renewable energy from the nearby Kassø Solar Park. This marks a new, locally anchored approach to e-methanol production. Congratulations to everyone involved in this breakthrough for the green transition! • The Nordic countries have taken a major step towards a more flexible electricity market. Yesterday, a new automated market for balancing the electricity grid was launched across the Nordic region. The new system is the result of a collaboration between the transmission system operators in Denmark (Energinet), Sweden (Svenska kraftnät), Norway (Statnett SF), and Finland (Fingrid Oyj). With the new transition, balancing services will now be traded every 15 minutes instead of every hour, enabling a more precise and flexible regulation of the power system. This allows for better integration of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, into the energy system while maintaining a high security of supply. • Strengthening public-private for sustainable finance 🌱 The transformation of economies and the shift toward sustainable financing present significant challenges—ones that require industry’s commitment to transition and private finance to drive it forward. In this context, engaging private actors in the development of sustainable finance policies and industry support programs is crucial to ensuring a successful green transition. As part of ongoing knowledge exchange, representatives from the German Federal Ministry of Finance visited Denmark to explore models of public-private collaboration in climate policy. A key focus was Denmark’s Climate Partnerships—14 sector-specific collaborations that bring government and industry together. To gain a broad perspective, discussions were held with Danish ministries and private sector partners.  We’re proud to be part of these conversations and to contribute to shaping a sustainable future. • How can Denmark and the UK work even closer together to accelerate the green transition? That was the focus when we had the privilege of welcoming Dame Nia Griffith DBE MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Equalities), and her delegation to State of Green. From the moment they stepped into our showroom, it was clear that carbon capture, district energy, and energy efficiency in buildings were top of mind. Denmark has spent decades developing integrated energy solutions, and we were excited to explore how these experiences could inspire and support the UK’s ambitions. Our Director, Finn M., warmly received the delegation, and Senior Project Manager, Gry Klitmose Holm, led an engaging discussion on lessons learned, key challenges, and future opportunities. The visit underscored the strong potential for collaboration, not just in technology, but also in policy, planning, and partnerships. A heartfelt thank you to Dame Nia Griffith DBE MP and her team for the inspiring discussions. We look forward to strengthening UK-Denmark cooperation in the green transition 🤝 Jenna Stewardson | Jo Sanders | Kasper Barfoed | Peder Pedersen
