SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR WASTE MINIMIZATION AND CARBON CAPTURE IN BUILDINGS AND THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR
Om os
Woodcircles is a European innovation project to develop circular solutions for sustainable wood construction. The goal is to accelerate the construction sector's green transition. The project aims to: - decrease GHG emissions, waste generation, and materials consumption in European construction through increased circular use of wood materials in buildings. - create new circular, sustainable value chains for recycled renewable materials. - harness digital technologies to accelerate the adoption of high-volume, high-impact circular solutions for wood in construction. - improve quality and consumer trust in reused and recycled materials. The Woodcircles solutions will be demonstrated in three pilot European cities (Rotterdam, Tartu and Turin). The project is coordinated by the Danish Technological Institute and gathers the expertise of twenty organisations, covering the entire wood value chain. Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.

For #Italian speakers: torinoeuprojects introduced the installation artwork produced during Paratissima. The artwork will welcome visitors and later be dismantled and reassembled in a local kindergarten as new furniture, such as desks and chairs.
The #WOODCIRCLES_eu project was showcased in a seminar on wood's role in the circular economy at this year’s SAIE fair in Bologna, a premier European construction event. Raimondo Da Col of Waugh Thistleton Architects, a WOODCIRCLES partner, presented core principles - Design for Longevity, Disassembly, and Reuse - that guide adaptable building design in the project. Last week, I had the opportunity of attending in the 60th ISOCARP - International Society of City and Regional Planners congress, themed "Reinventing the (In)visible Cities," in the beautiful city of #Siena. This was my first experience in such a forum, and it was an incredibly stimulating and insightful event, filled with enriching discussions with experts who share a common goal: planning for better cities. In a panel of presenters from all over the world who showcased their latest research and innovations, I had the pleasure of co-presenting a case study from the Horizon project WOODCIRCLES, titled "Challenges and Opportunities for Closing the Loop on Wood in Urban Areas" with my colleague Madalina RUSEN in Track 5 - Circular Urbanity. Special thanks to Madalina for sharing the stage and this valuable opportunity with me! The days flew by with many insightful moments and plenary sessions where keynote speakers and experts such as Orna Rosenfeld, PhD, Carlos Moreno, MASSIMILIANO FUKSAS ARCHITECTURE, led thought-provoking discussions on the future of urban development. A sincere thanks to Pietro Elisei and Sabina Reichert for their tireless efforts in organizing such a remarkable congress and for the constant support they provided to the URBASOFIA team everyday. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from them and all the professionals I connected with during this inspiring experience. As Carlos Moreno said in his presentation, cities are at the core of the causes of many problems in our society, but they are also the key to solving these problems in order to build more sustainable, circular and inclusive urban spaces! #WPC60Siena #ISOCARP #Siena #urbanplanning
