Five pillars to decarbonize the last mile logistics

Gathering 31 partners from ten different countries, DECARBOMILE aims to trigger an unprecedented improvement of the green last mile logistics in Europe. To reach that goal, DECARBOMILE relies on a strong experience of decarbonising urban logistics through European initiatives such as CIVITAS. Partners will build upon all previous results to develop improved delivery methods, tools and methodologies, and implement them across Europe. The solutions developed in DECARBOMILE will demonstrate the full potential of decarbonised last mile logistics in four living labs (in Hamburg – Germany, Istanbul – Türkiye, Logrono - Spain, and Nantes –France), while four satellites (Getafe - Spain, Ghent – Belgium, Sarajevo - Bosnia and Herzegovina and Tallinn - Estonia) will be involved at a smaller scale to test and study the solution in their own local contexts.

🚲🚲 On the 31 June, we were at the biannual congress of the Les Boîtes à Vélo - France! 🚲🚲 📍👩💼 Our consortium partner Red de Ciudades y Territorios por la Bicicleta (RedBici) (represented by Carmen Estévez Martínez) had the chance to present DECARBOMILE to the participants during a session on “Collaborating at the European level, the key to success?” and exchange with other #cyclelogistics stakeholders across Europe on the stakes and challenges to implement cycle-logistics at the European scale. 💬 This congress was an opportunity to meet and connect with other stakeholders in the cycle mobility ecosystem and learn more about how to boost the use of #cargobikes in #logistics. 💡 For example, at European level, the harmonisation of standards for cargo-bikes can be very powerful to enhance the use of this new type of mobility. These norms should take into account both the cycle-logistics activities and the cycling infrastructure.

🍀 Last week, we participated to the #TRA24 in #Dublin with other cutting-edge innovation projects 💡 ! 📄 We had the pleasure to present a joint poster together with colleagues from URBANE Project and GREEN-LOG on decarbonising #LastMileLogistics through #collaboration, sustainable business models, regulation, space management optimisation, #digitalisation, and innovation transferability enablers. 📢 We participated in the 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 “Innovation in #UrbanLogistics: Public and Private Sectors Thriving Together”, 🎤 alongside Paola Cossu, FIT Consulting srl; Ioanna Fergadiotou, INLECOM; Angela Nuñez Gonzalez, Correos; Sergio Fernández Balaguer, EMT Madrid; Raffaele Vergnani, POLIS Network, 💬 moderated by Octavia Anamaria Stepan (CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), and organised by Dr. Yanying Li (ALICE, Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe (ETP LOGISTICS) and Caroline Alméras (ECTRI). 🔎 We were present at: 1️⃣ the #EC stand to present FlexiModal cargo-bike developed as part of the DECARBOMILE project 🙌 and which was happily tested by several participants, including from CINEA! 2️⃣ the ALICE #Logistics #Innovation Village with other inspiring projects such as our sister projects URBANE Project and GREEN-LOG, but also DELPHI_EU project, DISCO Project, UNCHAIN Project and others. 🙌 Take a look at the Replication Booklet crafted by ULaaDS - Urban Logistics as an on-Demand Service! ❔ What is the objective? ✔ To ensures that the successful solutions pioneered in the project are effectively shared with cities, facilitating the implementation of proven urban logistics solutions! 💡 At the end of the replication programme, the Satellite cities identified ULaaDS solutions that could be adapted and replicated within their own local contexts. 🙌 Dive into the replicable #urbanlogistics solutions developed and tested by our 3️⃣ lighthouse cities Bremen, Mechelen, and Groningen, in the new ULaaDS Replication Booklet! 🙌 Replication and scaling up have been key objectives within ULaaDS: it is crucial that other cities can benefit from the experiences, challenges, and practices of the Lighthouse cities. Replication, in the context of ULaaDS, was envisioned as the pathway towards the adoption of solutions by a wide range of cities, with four Satellite cities participating in the replication activities: Alba Iulia (Romania) 🇷🇴,Bergen (Norway) 🇳🇴, Edinburgh (the UK) 🏴, and Rome (Italy) 🇮🇹. Participants from Lighthouse cities, Satellite cities, and project partners engaged in a three-year replication programme designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and capacity building. This programme aimed at evaluating the transferability potential of selected solutions. 💡 At the end of the replication programme, the Satellite cities identified ULaaDS solutions that could be adapted and replicated within their own local contexts. 📢 New available results! 📝 The Deliverable 4.1 on Innovative last-mile logistics equipment for the living labs which look at technical developments on the equipment that will be tested in the frame of the DECARBOMILE use-cases is now available ! 🔎 This deliverable focuses on the development and production of the equipment to present their integration with digital tools and their implementation and proper adaptation to multimodal requirements. In this deliverable, you will find the presentation of: 🛥 the barge for Hamburg, developped by OHB, 🚲 the cargo-bikes which will be used in Nantes and Logroño and developped by #FlexiModal, 📦 🔒 the parcel lockers to be tested in the Spanish pilot cities Logroño and Getafe, developped by Intelligent Parking, 🏗 the micro-containers and aggregator system also developed by #FlexiModal and implemented in Nantes.
