“The private (food and agriculture) sector needs a new model for sustainability, one that shifts the focus from selling to doing”. 👉🌍 With only 7% of companies being on track to achieve their net zero scope 1 and 2 targets (Accenture), and only 3% of large company executives globally saying they are on track to meet their sustainability targets (Bain), is it time to innovate how we look at sustainability? Agriculture Dive suggests 3 initiatives to do so: 1. 👩🌾 Flip the script on sustainability initiatives: empowering the agricultural supply chain and farms to be at the forefront of change, rather than having food brands compete for, many times, unrealistic targets. 2. 📈 Standardise the measure of success: If we are to make any meaningful progress, we need a common language for sustainability. 3. 📄 Show the receipts: use third party auditing to create trust across the value chain. We would like to add: 4.🤝 Shift to a holistic ecosystem approach: A resilient, sustainable food system requires collaboration for exponential impact. We must move from silos to synergies to drive accessible, viable and innovative opportunities for all. Introducing CONCAT LL 🌎: the Living Lab dedicated to building climate resilience in Catalonia’s agriculture. The European Commission's report on climate change revealed that certain regions in Europe could face up to a 30% reduction in crop yields by 2050, especially concerning the Mediterranean region 🚜. 👉With the various climate crises impacting Catalonian agriculture, one clear example being the drought emergency that hit its territories earlier this year, it has never been more evident that the effects of climate change are being lived now, and are not just a future concern. This is why, through our partnership with IRTA and Federació de Cooperatives Agràries de Catalunya, we are aiming to redefine how we mitigate the effects of climate change in Catalonia, through CONCAT LL 🌎. This October, CONCAT LL is organising a workshop, where we will be uniting top scientists, leading Catalan organisations and companies, and other key stakeholders to tackle the pressing challenges of Catalonian agriculture. The workshops, and all ongoing CONCAT LL projects, embrace 1) 🙌authentic collaboration, 2) 🤝 Shared Agendas, 3) 🚜decentralised monitoring and assessment, and support the EU funded project Eco-Ready, which aims to promote sustainable practices and innovation in agriculture across Europe.
