The ICR Facility is providing technical assistance to the The Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI). PACCI intends to advance women in trade in countries of The Guided Trade Initiative of the AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area), and will implement an initial pilot in Kenya. The study will identify the challenges for women enterprises in trade in Kenya, working together with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KNNCI).   Although trade policies are not de jure discriminatory, they impact women and men differently due to dissimilar initial conditions such as the sectors, income group or firm size. In Kenya, women constitute 47% of the labour force, yet only 9% of businesses are female owned. Additional cultural, financial and regulatory obstacles also affect women's participation in trade.   The project’s objective is to conduct an assessment of the challenges and needs specific to women owned/led businesses operating in Kenya.
