Construction Of Novel CERTification methOds and means of compliance for disruptive technologies
À propos
CONCERTO (Construction Of Novel CERTification methOds and means of compliance for disruptive technologies) is an EU-funded project, under the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking programme. The project's overall objective is to develop technical data which will constitute draft regulatory material for future breakthrough innovations. Its aim is twofold: 1. to develop a comprehensive set of regulations on certification of aircrafts, together with a preliminary description of Methods of Compliance (MoCs) applicable to the three "thrusts" of Clean Aviation (Hybrid electric regional aircraft, Ultra-efficient short and short-medium range aircraft, Disruptive technologies to enable hydrogen-powered aircraft) 2. to assess the feasibility of a digital certification framework to support collaboration and model based certification. Certification is expected to improve safety, while shortening time to bring new safe products to market and into service and maintaining European leadership and competitiveness. The results are expected to be transposable and scalable to different product lines and aircraft segments such as general aviation, rotorcraft, business jets and commercial medium-long range, affecting the complete fleet. The project is supported by the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking and its members. Funded by the European Union, under Grant Agreement No 101101999. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking. Neither the European Union nor Clean Aviation JU can be held responsible for them.

💬 🗣️ Yesterday I attended in Montréal to the International Civil Aviation Organization event hashtag #ICAO LTAG Stocktaking Event on Aviation CO2 Emissions Reductions. This event was a valuable opportunity to take stock of technologies contributing towards the shared long-term aspirational goal (LTAG) for international aviation to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and to present how Clean Aviation is contributing to it. 👀 I was pleased to participate in an international panel discussion on " Aircraft Technology –Policies & Partnerships". This session, moderated by Arthur Orton, from Federal Aviation Administration, involved leading experts in the field, including Dunia Abboud from Bureau Veritas Group and Brandon Graver PhD Graver from Airlines for America . I had the opportunity to present: 🔹 Clean Aviation’s four cutting-edge aircraft concepts that address the Small & Medium Range (SMR) and Regional (REG) segments to decrease net-GHG down to an average of 86% from 2035 onwards thanks to an improved efficiency of no less than 30% from aircraft technological innovations at aircraft level and the use of SAF and H2. 🔹 the role of EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency in the Clean Aviation programme and the introduction of a brand-new dedicated certification assessment scale (similar to the TRL approach) as part of CONCERTO Project to assess the maturity of new certification specifications and standards. This approach, called CRL (Certification Readiness Level) associated with specific KPIs, will be enforced as a new assessment tool. The aim is to get our portfolio of technologies meeting the CRL6 target to support their introduction onto new products targeting an Entry-Into-Service from 2035. More on https://lnkd.in/dSc6RPwe 🔹 the EU initiatives to reduce the aviation environmental foot print :#GreenDeal , #RefuelEU, #AZEA, #SESAR, Clean Hydrogen Partnership, #Batt4EU and the connection with national initiatives in Europe 🔹 the unique and pivotal role of Clean Aviation in Europe to foster innovation in Aviation and to connect all EU stakeholders to accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality and the importance of such an initiative to meet International Civil Aviation Organization LTAG by 2050 Thanks to Delphine Micheaux Naudet-Naudet and Sophia Olmos Olmas for support in organising the event

CONCERTO Project a republié ceci
Clean Planet Director in the European Commission. Account managed by me and my team. Mother of 3. Dutch by birth, but European by heart.
Aircraft certification is a comprehensive process that covers the design, production & operational aspects to ensure that aircraft are safe, reliable & compliant with all relevant standards & regulations. Aircraft certification is a lengthy & detailed process designed to ensure that the highest standards of safety & reliability are met before an aircraft enters into service. In Europe, the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency is the central authority for certification & set the regulatory framework within which the national aviation authorities operate. Clean Aviation, partnership between the European Commission & the aviation industry in which Commission invests EUR 1.7 billion, is developing disruptive new aircraft technologies to support the #EUGreenDeal & climate neutrality by 2050. These technologies will deliver net greenhouse gas reductions of no less than 30%, compared to 2020 state-of-the-art. The technological & industrial readiness will allow deployment of new aircraft with this performance no later than 2035, enabling 75% of the world’s civil aviation fleet to be replaced by 2050. Clean Aviation is focusing on disruptive innovation for hybrid electric regional aircraft, ultra-efficient short & short-medium range aircraft, & disruptive technologies to enable hydrogen-powered aircrafts. These new disruptive technologies will need to certified before the aircraft can enter into service. The Clean Aviation CONCERTO Project focuses on the certification needed to bring new disruptive aircraft technologies into the market, & at the same time, developing processes & methods that will enable a significant reduction of time to market & certifications costs. Last month, this 4-year project which was launched in 01/2023, delivered an important milestone with the publication of a brand new Certification Readiness Level (CRL) scale. This CRL scale includes 9 levels representing distinct stages in the certification process. It offers a crucial complement to the traditional Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), & are designed to assess the future certifiability of aircrafts which embrace disruptive innovations in order to deliver on zero emission aviation. The CRL scale has been recently published & introduced by EASA within their innovation services & is raising significant attention across the aviation community. The certification framework will not only improve safety, but will also significantly reduce the development time & cost to introduce new products to the market. The project will develop a digital framework for certification & aims to reduce with 30% both the time to market as well as the costs of certification. It project plays in important role in supporting the competitiveness of the European aircraft industry. The results are expected to be transposable and scalable to different product lines and aircraft segments such as general aviation, rotorcraft, business jets and commercial medium-long range, affecting the complete fleet.
