#ICYMI On October 10, we had the pleasure of welcoming Axiom Space's Ax-3 mission crew, Col. Walter Villadei of the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare), Mission Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, Col. Alper Gezeravcı and T. Col. Marcus Wandt, at Leonardo’s Caselle site (Turin, Italy),   During the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to tour our #Pc2Lab (Product Capability and Concept Laboratory), which plays a key role in the design and development of new military aircraft, as well as in creating new configurations for existing platforms within the “System of Systems” framework, and the #VirtualLab, where the crew was able to observe our innovative #digital solutions in the field of #simulation and #training.

President and Chief Executive Officer at CAE

Last week, I was happy to visit to the International Flight Training School (IFTS) in Decimomannu, Italy, where our partnership with Leonardo continues to thrive. CAE’s joint venture with Leonardo has been pivotal in delivering exceptional, comprehensive lead-in to fighter training to the Italian Air Force and foreign customers. IFTS is the most advanced training school, leveraging Leonardo's M346 and CAE synthetic training system, and where a total of 12 nations send their elite pilot students to be trained to become fighter pilots. Together, we are proud to shape the future of military flight training, and I’m excited for our continued collaboration as we further raise the bar in defence training excellence.

In the past three years, around 140 pilots from nearly a dozen global air forces have graduated from the International Flight Training School (#IFTS), a joint military and industry collaboration among the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare ), Leonardo and CAE Defense & Security. Located at Decimomannu air base in Sardinia, Italy, the IFTS takes students through a nine-month Phase IV Advanced/Lead-in Fighter Training course, readying fighter pilots for their frontline fourth - and fifth-generation combat aircraft using a combination of live and synthetic #training. The school, which has currently an annual capacity of 80 students, is attracting so much interest that foundations are being laid for additional student housing, and plans are in place to expand the current fleet of #Leonardo #M346 twin-engine advanced jet trainers to cope with the expected influx. The Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) held a ceremony in Istrana, marking the return of the #FrecceTricolori aerobatics team from their #NorthAmericaTour, during which the twin engine #M346 jet with the #FrecceTricolori’s new livery was unveiled. Thus announcing that Leonardo’s cutting-edge jet trainer will be the future aircraft of Italy’s National Aerobatic Team.   With more than 125,000 flight hours and 126 aircraft sold worldwide, the M-346 is recognized as the world’s most advanced #training system in service and represents the backbone of the International Flight Training School (#IFTS) in Decimomannu (Sardinia, Italy) – a school of excellence for military pilots training that is the result of a strategic partnership between Leonardo and the Italian Air Force.   The M-346's twin-engine, tandem-seat aircraft will deliver advanced performance and great manoeuvrability, taking the Frecce Tricolori into a new era with a latest-generation aircraft featuring fully digital flight controls and avionics, a fly-by-wire flight control system with quadruple redundancy, and a highly advanced Human-Machine Interface. Additionally, the M346 represents the fulcrum of a highly complex training system based on the latest flight simulation technologies. The system features an Embedded Tactical Training System (#ETTS) that allows the M-346 to emulate a fighter plane’s sensors and armaments; a Ground Based Training System (#GBTS), which includes a Live Virtual Constructive capability; and an Integrated Logistic Support (#ILS) service that optimises fleet and simulator management for maximum operational use.   Leonardo is already working on the aircraft’s new #Block20 configuration, introducing new digital functions and #ArtificialIntelligence to maintain the M-346’s position as top performer in future military pilot training scenarios. https://lnkd.in/d2sW4XqG
