Inspiring Europe's Defence by connecting young professionals & students and thinking across borders
À propos
The European Defence Network (EDN) is a private initiative and association aiming at promoting the European perspective in Defence and Security. Targeting on young professionals and students from the relevant domains (international relations, politics, military, academia, defence industry), we aspire to have a long term impact by connecting, building trust, educating and inspiring for action. As we are independent we can do this without a specific political agenda. Moreover, we have a highly interactive approach involving our members in the design and development of our organization and the execution of projects. For our concept we have been awarded with a price by the French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly in 2020 and the Citizenship award at the Berlin Security Conference in 2022. To support our ambition, we organise seminars in different European countries to engage with experts and leaders of defence, both local and European: Paris and Madrid in 2022, Tallinn in 2024. We also publish content on various topics: a monthly press digest on European Defence, interviews, position papers, ...

Last weekend, two members from EDN had the privilege to attend the Den Helder Security Forum, hosted by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Europe and CDA Dertigers, in the coastal town of Den Helder, Netherlands. The discussions were centered on #EuropeanDefence capabilities and the future of democratic societies, bringing together an impressive lineup of speakers and young professionals from 9 countries. 🎙️The forum provided a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with experts like Tom Berendsen, MEP, Helga K., Director of the Lennart Meri Conference, and Nico Lange, Senior Fellow at the Munich Security Conference (MSC). We delved into the challenges of strengthening Europe’s resilience, enhancing cooperation between nations, and the evolving importance of #NATO in safeguarding collective security. 🔎In addition to stimulating panels, we explored the broader concept of #security, focusing on its economic, societal, and virtual dimensions. Special thanks to Daan van de Watering for his insightful contribution to the Virtual Dimension working group. 🙏Special thanks to the organizing teams led by Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy and Marc Haverkamp for delivering a seamlessly coordinated and impactful event, and to Kai Gläser and Tom Körner for extending us and invitation after our fruitful collaboration in Tallinn. Looking forward to building on these conversations and continuing the vital work of fostering unity and resilience across Europe! 🇪🇺 María Gracia Moreno Vegas Elias Ricken
