About us
The Institut Laue-Langevin is an international research centre at the leading edge of neutron science and technology. As the world’s flagship centre for neutron science, the ILL provides scientists with a very high flux of neutrons feeding some 40 instruments, which are constantly being developed and upgraded. We make our facilities and expertise available to 1400 researchers from all over the world. ILL is funded and managed by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, with 11 other countries.

Global race for both a vaccine and therapeutics for Covid-19 requires more than genetic information. Modern tools such as synchrotron X-ray radiation, cryo-electron microscopy and neutron scattering are indispensable for insights into the morphology and functionality of viruses. To fight Covid-19, Neutron scattering’s particular role here will be required to get the full picture of the “invisible enemy” the world has found itself at war with.
