We are pleased to welcome our new interns to the OECD! Secretary-General Mathias Cormann personally welcomed the interns who have recently started their internships, extending his best wishes for their success during the Biannual Intern Welcome Event, organized by the Intern Circle Board. During their time at the OECD, interns contribute to a variety of projects and research, working alongside policy experts and specialists supporting both policy work and corporate functions. The internship programme accepts applications on an ongoing basis from students enrolled in fully accredited degree programmes. If you are interested in interning at the OECD, we invite you to visit our website for more information. ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wNpL4

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
À propos
The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment. We analyse and compare data to predict future trends. We set international standards on a wide range of things, from agriculture and tax to the safety of chemicals. We look, too, at issues that directly affect the lives of ordinary people, like how much they pay in taxes and social security, and how much leisure time they can take. We compare how different countries’ school systems are readying their young people for modern life, and how different countries’ pension systems will look after their citizens in old age. Drawing on facts and real-life experience, we recommend policies designed to make the lives of ordinary people better. The common thread of our work is a shared commitment to market economies backed by democratic institutions and focused on the wellbeing of all citizens.

Plastics can be found in the highest and deepest places on Earth, and everywhere in between. Policy action is critical to end plastic pollution. What strategies can achieve this goal and at what cost? The new OECD - OCDE report “Policy Scenarios to Eliminate Plastic Pollution by 2040” looks at 5️⃣ distinct policy scenarios that model alternative degrees of international policy ambition Here are some of the key takeaways: 📈Without new policies, annual plastics production and use will increase by 70% and 19% of plastic waste will be mismanaged in 2040. 🛒To stop plastics from leaking into the environment, policymakers must curb plastics production and use. 🗑️ Ambitious action only in advanced economies is unlikely to end plastic pollution. 🌎 Global ambition across the plastics lifecycle and in all countries can nearly eliminate plastic leakage by 2040. 💰It will be more cost-effective to tackle the whole plastics lifecycle than to focus on specific stages. Dive into our report to find our latest projections and policy scenarios to eliminate plastic pollution by 2040 📖 https://oe.cd/plastics2040 #Plastics | #OECD Shardul Agrawala, Peter BORKEY, Rob Dellink, Elena Buzzi, Bum Cheul Park, Ruben Bibas, High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution, UN Environment Programme, Green Growth Knowledge Partnership, Geneva Environment Network

Ahead of a critical round of talks at the UN in November, to agree a legally binding treaty on plastic pollution, our NEW report evaluates the environmental and economic opportunities of strategies to reduce and ultimately end plastic pollution. It shows that implementing stringent policies across the #plastics lifecycle globally could very significantly reduce plastic leakage into the environment by 2040. ➡️ https://oe.cd/5Iq

The Climate Club calls for greater financial and technical assistance for industrial decarbonisation in emerging and developing economies. Growing industrial demand in emerging markets and developing economies is set to drive investment in this region. Ensuring these investments are climate-aligned is crucial for successful climate action. This will require decarbonising existing manufacturing industries and leapfrogging emissions-intensive production routes. Clear policy signals and innovative financing mechanisms can help to attract investments for industry decarbonisation in EMDEs. 🆕 Tax Policy Reforms 2024: Don't miss our annual publication with comparative information on tax reforms across countries and tax policy developments over time. This report covers tax reforms announced and implemented in 2023 across 90 member countries and jurisdictions, including all OECD countries. It provides an overview of the shifting tax policy landscape as governments work to balance the need for increased domestic revenue with efforts to mitigate the cost-of-living crisis impacting households and businesses. Notably, the report points to a shift away from the tax reductions introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent high inflation period. Instead, there is a move towards more balanced approaches, including rate increases and base broadening initiatives, aimed at creating fiscal space to tackle long-term structural challenges such as population aging, rising inequality, and climate change. In addition to applying their extensive institutional and technical knowledge on a daily basis, they use new technologies (including computer-assisted translation and AI) to maximise efficiency and improve the terminological consistency of their translations. Through their work, they contribute to the Organisation's global outreach and help facilitate discussions on how to develop better policies for better lives.
